Review: Lush Rockstar Soap

Recently, I went into Lush to find a new shower gel to use… and I realized that I had already tried all of the shower gels that were available in Japan! I picked out the Rockstar soap to try instead.
Lush Rockstar Soap

What it does: (from the Lush US website)

Vanilla candy soap for rock stars. There’s nothing hard rock or heavy metal about this soap. We’re serious about soap, but not too serious not to love our pink sudser. It’s unabashedly a best-selling pop hit that everyone, boys and girls, can’t wait to get their hands on. While you may object otherwise, once you try our pink, vanilla-scented cream soap you’ll be singing a different tune. Scented with real vanilla (the gorgeous stuff that comes from pods, not labs), and decorated with soap stars embedded inside you’ll want to give Rock Star a regular rotation in the soap dish.

Lush Rockstar Soap

Price: $7.95 for 3.5 oz in the US, 3.50 GBP for 100g in the UK, and 550 JPY for 100g in Japan

Availability: Lush products are available at Lush stores. Lush UK ships globally as well.

Scent: Although this product says that it smells like vanilla candy, I felt that the scent was similar to berry scents.

  • This product makes a good, thick lather
  • It’s pink! It smells sweet!

  • I felt that this soap melted easily and did not last long
  • It is a bit too harsh for this time of the year. I needed to apply body lotion immediately after I got out of the shower.

Would I repurchase? No. While it’s not a bad soap, I felt that the scent was not unique enough. I also didn’t like that it seemed to melt easily in my shower compared to other soaps from Lush.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Lush Mangnificent Soap

This is a review of the Lush Mangnificent Soap. I recently went into Lush with the intent of buying a new shower gel… and I found that I had already tried (and reviewed!) all of the shower gels that were sold at Lush Japan.  Although I don’t usually go towards soaps, I bought this one!

After posting this picture on Instagram, I got a few comments from my friends saying it looks like pork belly!

(picture from my Instagram)

What it does: (from the Lush USA website)

Turn up the energy on groggy mornings with this juicy splash of soapy paradise! Simply strip down and suds up to get whisked away on a sunny adventure of fresh fragrance: zingy Sicilian lemon oil, mandarin oil and neroli oil awaken your senses and brighten up dull-looking skin. Fresh pureed mango and dried mango slices tone and gently exfoliate the skin, leaving it looking vibrant, feeling fresh and smelling gorgeously fruity. Now you’re ready for action!

Price: Lush USA lists this for $6.95 for 3.5 oz

Availability: Lush products are available at freestanding Lush stores globally. Also, Lush ships from their UK online store globally for a quite reasonable shipping cost

Scent: This soap has a very fruity, mango-y scent… which is when I realized that the name of this product is a play on the words mango and magnificient!

  • This product does not have a strong scent. This is rare for Lush soaps – usually my entire bathroom smells like the soap
  • This was a gentle soap, if that is what you prefer

  • I did not get quite as much lather from this soap as I usually do from other Lush soaps

Would I repurchase? Maybe.  While I didn’t dislike this soap, there wasn’t anything memorable about it.

I’m really looking forward to the fall releases from Lush, and hopefully there will be some new products for me to review!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Lush Love soap

The Lush Love soap totally took over my Instagram a little while ago. It seemed that right after the US Supreme Court ruled that state bans on same sex marriage were illegal, the Lush Love soap exploded.  Obviously, I needed to buy it!

(Picture from my Instagram)

Lush has had several products called “Love” or something similar. This product may be better known as the #GayIsOK soap!  I love the #GayIsOK hashtag, I love the golden glitter, and I love that Lush is supporting LGBT rights!

What it does: (from the Lush website)

Lather up and love your skin with our palm free soap base, scented with the iconic Love fragrance. Love the LGBT community and the campaign group All Out, when money from your purchase funds grassroots campaign groups around the world. But before you get your bar wet, show your love online by posting a Love Soap selfie to say that you think #GayIsOk!

Price: $5.95 for 4.2 oz in the US, 650 JPY for 120g in Japan

Scent:  I read another review which called the scent “a rich, full-bodied citrus”, which I completely agree with.  It smells like citrus zest but much fuller and earthier, like bergamot and cinnamon.

Availability: This soap is available at Lush and Lush Online. Surprisingly, I could not find it on the Lush UK website.

  • I LOVE the scent.
  • I love the cause
  • The golden glitter is biodegradable and does not get everywhere
  • the product is vegan!
  • This soap creates a creamy lather, which did not strip my skin.

  • Although I know that all Lush products use biodegradable glitter, I felt uncomfortable using this to wash my face, in case it got in my eyes.

Would I repurchase?  Yes, I wish this product were permanent!  I really liked the scent of this product, and I loved how the glitter made it look!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Lush Orange Jelly Soap – soap and shower jelly in one

One of the first Lush products I ever used was one of their shower jellies. Shower jellies are shower gels in jello form. It was the first time I tried a product like it, and it was quite interesting.  In this year’s Lush winter collection, there is a soap which has a layer of shower jelly on top!  This is a review of the Lush Orange Jelly soap, called Bright Jelly soap (ブライトジェリーソープ) in Japan.

What it does: (from the Lush UK website)
This soap is orange, pure and simple. It has freshly squeezed orange juice, Brazilian orange oil and even fresh slices of the stuff preserved in the top layer of carrageenan jelly.

This product smells like oranges. Lush does a pretty good job with their citrus scents, being realistic without smelling like kitchen cleanser.

Price: 3.40 GBP/100g, $6.95/3.5oz, 600 JPY/100g

  • I like the scent. It is fresh without being sharp.

  • I felt that this soap cleanses too well for a winter soap. I need to use a very heavy moisturizer afterwards.
  • While the concept is interesting, I didn’t like the execution of combining soap with shower jellies. When I rubbed the soap against my washcloth, it was hard to combine the soap and jelly.
  • There is a layer of white stuff between the two which you can see in the first picture. This part does not melt evenly.
  • Why does Lush put fruit into its products? This product had a slice of preserved orange in it… which is just weird to me. I felt the same about the cherry in the Lush Summer Pudding soap.

Would I repurchase? No. It’s a good soap, it just doesn’t work for me in the winter.

Unfortunately, my first product of this year’s Lush holiday selection didn’t work out for me!  I have reviewed several other Lush seasonal products before, which you can find on my Past Reviews page.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

I hauled at Lush UK…

Yes, I know… I’m supposed to be using my stash.  But um… I caved.

I hauled some stuff from Lush UK.

(deep breath)

Lush stuff is cheaper in the UK, and can be bought online. The trade off is that the shipping is INCREDIBLY expensive. Still, there are products which are less than half the price in the UK when compared to other countries. There are also products which are only available in the UK. Anyway, on to my haul!

Let the Good Times Roll cleanser

Rose Jam shower gel

Slammer shower gel
Sonic Death Monkey shower gel

Gentle Lentil solid shampoo

Banana Moon soap

Orange Jelly hand and body soap

Queen of Hearts soap

Reincarnate solid shampoo

Pineapple Grunt soap

Reviews coming soon!
