Review: Lush Yuzu and Cocoa shower gel

Long time readers of my blog know that I love Lush products. The problem is that I have tried most of their soaps and shower gels, and there are times when I can’t find anything new to try! Fortunately, I found the Lush Yuzu and Cocoa shower gel on my last trip.

Yuzu is a citrus fruit that is native to Japan. It is used often in Japanese food and sweets, and has a fragrance which is not sweet but not as sharp as lemon.  But combined with cocoa? Although orange and chocolate is a great combination, I’ve never had anything that combines yuzu and cocoa, so I was very interested to see what this would be like.

What it does: (from the Lush website)

Enough cocoa and tonka to make Mr Wonka wish he’d invented something half as sweet. Citrusy fresh yuzu juice is blended with reassuring cocoa and tonka absolutes for a shower that smells like chocolate oranges. You might not be able to lick it, but with a scent this sumptuous your comfort eating cravings are sure to be satiated.

Price: 9.95 GBP, 20.95 USD, 2000 JPY for 250g.

What I thought:

First, the scent… I loved it! Cocoa seems to take an edge off of the scent of yuzu, making it citrusy without being sharp. This definitely isn’t the scent of your household cleaners!

As with most Lush shower gels, this is very liquidy. I like to apply it to a wash cloth to use it, but I still felt that it did not lather very well that way. The best way to get lather is to apply it directly, and ensuring that it does not get diluted with water.

The color is a bit off putting, though – it is florescent yellow!

Would I repurchase? Maybe.  I liked the product well enough, but I felt like I was using a lot of it at once, and I used it up pretty quickly.

Review: Bath and Body Works A Thousand Wishes shower gel

This is a review of the Bath and Body Works A Thousand Wishes shower gel.

What it does: (from the Bath and Body Works website)

Warm your heart a thousand times over with a festive blend of sparkling champagne, crystal peonies & almond crème

  • Top Notes: Sparkling Champagne, Twinkling Star Fruit, Golden Quince
  • Mid Notes: Crystal Peonies, Purple Freesia
  • Dry Notes: Gilded Amber, Almond Crème, Sugared Sandalwood, Velvet Musk

Price: $12.50 for 10 fluid ounces

Scent: I thought this smelled of sweet, slightly sour notes. I picked up on the quince, sugar, and musk, but I don’t know what champagne is supposed to smell like in a shower gel

What I thought: This scent is significantly sweeter than what I usually purchase, but it was a nice change. The fruity scent is different enough so that it doesn’t feel generic.  As with other Bath and Body Works shower gels, I felt that it lathered very well and rinsed clean.

Would I repurchase? Maybe. I didn’t think it was a bad scent, but I am not sure it was a real hit with me.

Review: Bath and Body Works French Lavender and Honey

This is a review of the Bath and Body Works French Lavender & Honey shower gel, which I picked up when I was in New York.

Skin-loving formula is scented with a romantic bouquet of French lavender, nectarine de Provence & sun-kissed honey

  • Top Notes: Mandarin, Melon de Cavaillon, Blackberries, Violet Leaves
  • Mid Notes: French Lavender, Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Nectarine de Provence
  • Dry Notes: Honey, White Oak Musk

Price: $12.50 for 10 oz. Bath and Body Works usually has some promotion going on!

Availability: Bath and Body Works products are available at freestanding Bath and Body Works stores, as well as online.

Scent: This product smells of sweet herbs.  I smelled something fruity together with the lavender.

What I thought: I liked this scent.  It was sweet without being overly cloying, and I liked the herbal side of it as well.  This product lathered well and I enjoyed using it.

Would I repurchase? Yes, I liked it!

Review: Lush Yummy Mummy shower gel

If you take a look at my annual favorites, you may see that I review a lot of Lush products. Because I used to buy every single limited edition shower gel, I see some of them repromoted each year. For Mothers’ Day this year, I picked up a new shower gel, the Lush Yummy Mummy Shower Gel.

(picture from my Instagram)

What it does: (from the Lush website)

This super shimmery shower gel will have you turning heads (and noses!). Geranium oil, Brazilian orange oil and tonka absolute are expertly blended together to create one of our most intoxicating, yet delicate, fragrances: Yummy Mummy. Fruity, sweet and dashed with a hint of luster, this shower gel will leave skin unimaginably soft and smelling like scrumptious strawberries. It’s well deserving of its name!

Price: 4.75 GBP / 100ml in the UK, $9.95 / 3.3 fluid oz in the US, and 1030 JPY / 100g in Japan. Because of the current weak Japanese Yen, this product is 15% cheaper in Japan than it is in the US.

Availability: This product is available at freestanding Lush stores as well as Lush online. If you do not have a Lush in your country, Lush products are available for shipping worldwide from the Lush UK website. (Note: this product is no longer available on the Lush UK website. I guess it is because the UK celebrates Mother’s Day in March)

Scent: This product has a strong fruity scent which reminds me of strawberries as well as powder.

  • This product contains shimmer!  The shimmer also dissolves in water, which eliminates the chance that the shimmer will get EVERYWHERE in my shower!!
  • Although this product has a runny consistency, I only needed a little to get a great lather. In fact, I had to get used to how little of the product I needed to wash my entire body.

  • Unfortunately, the scent did not work for me. While I liked the whiff that I smelled as I was buying it, it became overpowering in my shower.

Would I repurchase? No. There isn’t much fun in a Lush product if the scent doesn’t work.

I was disappointed that I didn’t like this product more, especially since this is the only product I picked up from the Mother’s Day collection. However, other than the scent, I thought this was a good shower gel!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Lush Hot Toddy Shower Gel

For the past few years, Lush has been one of the most reviewed brands on my blog.  Lush’s holiday line is especially popular, with old favorites such as Snow Fairy shower gel and Buche de Noel cleanser.  This year, I picked up a limited edition product, the Hot Toddy shower gel.

What it does: (from the Lush website)

With all the spice of a Christmas market, this deep red shimmering shower gel is sure to blow away the bah humbugs. Laced with softening seaweed, fresh ginger, cinnamon leaf oil and cleansing lemon oil, this will warm up even the chilliest of days and bring a sparkle to your shower.

3.95 GBP / 100 ml in the UK, $9.95 / 3.3 fl oz in the US, and 930 JPY / 100 ml in Japan.

This works out to $0.06 /ml in the UK, $0.10/ml in the US, and $0.07/ml in Japan .Due the currently extremely weak JPY, this product works out to be much cheaper in Japan than in the US.

This product smells strongly of cinnamon, ginger, and several other spices. The scent is very warm and inviting, and reminds me a lot of cozy drinks on cold nights.

Availability: This and other Lush products are available at Lush stores and online. Lush UK also ships almost all of their products internationally, at a fairly reasonable shipping rate.

  • I really like the scent, which is sweet but not overly so.
  • This product cleanses well and rinses clean, and does not dry out my skin.
  • While this product contains glitter, I found that the glitter does not transfer or remain on the skin. This may be because Lush has moved to biodegradable glitter this year.

  • The glitter in this product tends to settle at the bottom, and it is quite hard to shake it up.

Would I repurchase? Yes, I will probably purchase this again next Christmas!

Here are some other Lush holiday items that are available this year, which I have also reviewed in the past.

Snow Fairy shower gel
This is a very popular product every holiday season. I know some people who stock up on Snow Fairy every year!

Buche de Noel cleanser
I really like this cleanser. If you like Angels on Bare Skin, this is a great holiday version.

Snow Cake soap
Another product which has long been a staple of Lush’s holiday line!

Rose Jam shower gel
If you like sweet scents but don’t like vanilla scents, this is a very fruity sweet product.

Hope you enjoyed this review!
