Review: Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Laced Up – LOVE

This is a review for the Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Laced Up. I bought this when I went to NY.

Long time readers of Cosmeddicted know that I have a hard time painting my nails. I lack the patience to wait for nail polishes to dry. On top of that, nail polishes chip extremely fast on my nails.

Seeing all the hype about the Salon Effects in the blogger world, I was very excited to try these out.  I’ll cut to the chase – THESE ARE LOVE.

This is what is included in each box:
two packets of product, instructions, an orange stick, and a nail file

Each packet of product contains 8 strips.

If you have never used these before, I strongly suggest watching a few Youtube videos in advance.

I wasn’t sure about this pattern, but I ended up LOVING it.

What they do: (from Sally Hansen’s website)
Sally Knows nails are the best accessory. Now, Sally makes it easy to get a salon effect any time, any place. It wears like nail polish because it IS nail polish. No dry time, so you’re ready to go.

Price:  Around $10. They are a little pricey if you buy them at the retail price. I have found them much cheaper online, though.

  • No dry time. This is HUGE for me!
  • No need to paint 2-3 coats of polish!
  • Lots of different patterns to chose from!
  • MINIMAL chipping!!

These are my nails on Day 7.  This is my right hand, and I’m right handed. There is about 1mm of chipping on the tip of the nail, and 2-3 mm of chipping on the cuticle.  I usually get more chipping than this on Day 1 (yeah, I’m EXTREMELY hard on my nails).

The pattern (black lace on beige polish) also helps to disguise chipping.

  • $10 for one manicure is kind of expensive. However, if you have short nails like I do, you can get a full manicure from one 8-piece package (so 2 manicures in one box). There are several Youtube videos on this as well.
  • These are the same thickness throughout, instead of being thinner towards the edges. They will chip easily from the sides or from the cuticle, so press down hard!
  • These are much harder to remove than normal nail polish. I suggest using the foil method to remove them, especially the ones with glitter.

  • When applying them, remember to swipe all of your nails first with acetone. Remover with Vitamin E and other ingredients will make it harder for the strips to stick.
  • The instructions suggest stretching the strip to make it adhere better. I suggest not doing this. It makes the strip harder to handle.
  • I found the nail file included was very hard to use, so I just used my own.
  • Push your cuticles back before applying these, or steer clear of the cuticle area. This is the area that I had the most chipping.
  • There are pros and cons with using a strip which is larger/smaller than your nail.
    • If you use one that is smaller, it can easily chip from the sides. A full coat of top coat should prevent this.
    • If you use one that is larger, it can chip from your cuticles. I found this to be harder to fix.

Would I repurchase? YES YES YES.  This is on my must-buy list when I go to the US again, and on my wish list!

These do take a little getting used to, but I really liked them! I also bought a few other patterns which I’m excited to try!

Review: Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Quick Sand – one stroke nail polish?

This is a review for the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color in Quick Sand.  This was a gift from Eki.

What it does: (from One stroke, one coat, done.
This product claims that it can be applied with just one stroke, and will dry in 60 seconds. It also claims that it can be worn with only 1 coat.

Price: Will vary, depending on where you buy it. Most online stores have it at around $4.50

  • The color is a warm beige with a very tiny hint of sparkle. This color is very flattering on my skin and very appropriate for work.
  • This product dries very fast, although it took longer than 60 seconds.
  • The brush is very wide, flat and short, so that it can be applied in only one stroke. It took more than 1 stroke to cover my entire nail, but I felt that this brush is very easy to use.

  • I still needed 2 coats of application
  • Depending on how I applied it, it could get streaky. This nail polish takes some getting used to.
  • This nail polish chipped on me on Day 3 (but be aware that most nail polishes last only 2-3 days on me, so this does not mean that this particular nail polish chips easily)

Would I repurchase?  Yes!  I’m very uncoordinated with nail polish, but this was very easy to apply.  I would repurchase this color, and I’m also interested in trying other colors!

What is your favorite nail polish brand?  Hope this review helped!

NOTD, Seche Vite in Japan, and JAL lunches

Random tidbits…

– Here is a NOTD with a very cheap local nail polish.  I think this was about $1.50.

A very pretty peach-orange micro glitter.  This was 3 coats.

– While in Japan, I found the coveted Seche Vite top coat. If you are looking for it in Japan, you can find it at the Plaza!  It’s about 2000 yen ($25), though.

– I also found Essie, OPI, and Orly there. They were also about 2000 yen.  Yep, $25 for an Essie Nail Polish.

– JAL (Japan Airlines) has stepped up their meals for flights from Japan to China.  I usually get obento (boxed lunches) like the one shown below.

The teeny portions are very Japanese style.  You get two bites of everything!
The rice is in a separate container.
If you can read Japanese or Chinese, here are the contents.
I like these obentos so much better, with a light, fresh taste.  The flights from China to Japan still serve the sweet, cloying random-meat-in-sauce. Still, I like food in Japanese airlines better than most of the other airlines I’ve flown.
Hope you enjoyed this random post!

Thank you! Love from Iyah

After reading about the new Orly Cosmic FX collection on Temptalia, I got huge lemmings… and Iyah kindly sent me some!

Space Cadet
Plum with green duochrome… or is it Green with plum duochrome?

Galaxy Girl
Purple with red duochrome

Galaxy Girl is supposedly a dupe for MAC Formidable, while Space Cadet is supposedly a dupe for MAC Mean & Green.  Both of these MAC nail polishes are from the Venomous Villains – Maleficent Collection.

Iyah even included an H20 moisturizer and some candies!

Thanks again, Iyah!

Thank you! Love from Macnunu

I got a lovely parcel from Macnunu for winning her contest!

I was FLOORED when she told me the prize was an Urban Decay Naked palette!!  WOW.  And there were even some more things in the package.

But the best part was a wonderful love note!  I love getting them from blogger girls!

Orly Nail Polish in Bailamos (from this summer’s Viva Collection)
with an extra top coat!
This product got an A in Temptalia’s reviews.  This is the first Orly nail polish I’ve gotten and i’m excited to try it.

Face Q masks (絶世美肌)
I’ve received one in a love package before, and it was great.  I’m excited to try these as well.

Cover Girl Lash Blast Fusion
I love the original Lash Blast, and I’ve been wanting to try the Fusion as well.  We’ll see if it lives up to the Original!

Urban Decay Naked Palette
OOOOHHHHH!!!!!  What can I say? I’m at a loss for words.  I’ve read SO MANY reviews on this palette but I never thought I’d own one.
Do people want to see swatches/reviews?  Sheila has done a great one.  I can try to write a review, but hers is much better!
Oh, by the way – Urban Decay folks?  This is my first UD palette, but I’ve heard a lot of people love this palette because it does not contain the infamous Midnight Cowboy Rides Again.  Why do you like to include that glitter bomb eyeshadow in practically ALL of your palettes?
Thank you SO MUCH to Macnunu for this VERY generous gift!
Side note: I mentioned this on twitter recently, but Japan Customs has been opening a lot of my packages.  It’s not anything new, but it’s becoming more and more frequent lately.  About 50% of my packages come with tape like this:

I’m not sure what they are looking for!
