Review: Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow in Barely Branded

I’m late on the bandwagon when it comes to these Maybelline Color Tattoos, I know. The thing is, I don’t really like cream eyeshadow, especially the ones that come in pots.  I’ve found that they all crease on me!  I’ve tried the MAC paint pots early on in my beauty blogging days, and I’ve tried cheaper products as well, but they all don’t work.

So why did I pick this one up? Because I wanted to use it as a cheekbone highlight, not as a eyeshadow. Surprise surprise, not only does it work well, I’ve been absolutely loving it!

What it does: (from the Maybelline website)

Dare to wear our longest-lasting shadow. Our ink technology creates super-saturated color. Cream gel smoothes on for vibrant color that does not fade. Ink technology creates 24HR wear shadow for our most intense, long-lasting color saturation.  Cream formula glides on without creasing and keeps color vibrant.  Ophthalmologist-tested. Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers

Price: As with all US drugstore products, the price will vary depending on where it is purchased. Drugstore.com has this listed for $7

Availability: This and other Maybelline products are widely available in the US in drugstores and supermarkets.

Pros:

  • I’ve been loving stippling this on as a cheekbone highlight
  • This lasts well on my cheeks

Cons:

  • I haven’t used this as an eyeshadow, so I have no idea how it works!

Would I repurchase?  Yes, this product performed so well that I want to try some other colors… as eyeshadows this time!

Review: L’Oreal Infallible Eye Crayon in Gold

When I first got into beauty blogging, a cream eyeshadow crayon from a certain company was all the rage. I bought them online and tried them, but I found that they creased on my eyes, so I stopped using them.

How times have changed since then! There are many brands that have launched cream eyeshadow crayons, and the crease factor has gone down dramatically! This is a review of the L’Oreal Infallible Eye Crayon in Gold.

What it does: (from the L’Oreal website)

This ultra-intense smudge-proof eye crayon lasts from dawn until dusk and beyond, up to a full 24 hours. The smooth, creamy, long-wearing formula delivers easy-to-wear colour for any occasion. It’s now easy to create endless runway-inspired, colorful eye looks with just one product.

Price: Will vary depending on where it is purchased. The L’Oreal website lists this as $8

Availability: This product is widely available in US drugstores and supermarkets.

Swatch: This product is a very metallic gold.  It is a very creamy, highly pigmented color.

IMG_6802

Pros:

  • Very pigmented and creamy. I can use this on my lower lash line without tugging on my eyes
  • This product takes a few minutes to set, which means I can use the time to blend it

Cons:

  • I did not feel that this product lasted on my eyes. When I wore it on my lower lash line, it tended to fade after a few hours.

Would I repurchase? Maybe.  While this was a pretty good product, I still prefer the Milani Shadow Eyez pencils for the staying power!

Review: Urban Decay Obsessions palette

This is a review of the Urban Decay Obsessions palette.  This palette was previously offered as a 500 point perk from Sephora, and a friend of mine kindly gifted this to me. Urban Decay Obsessions

This product comes with 4 mini eyeshadows, a mini 24-7 eyeliner pencil, and a sample of the famous Primer Potion.

Although each eyeshadow is small, it was large enough for me to get my brush into it comfortably.  Besides, it takes a long time to use up eyeshadow!

Swatches:

From left:

Skimp (shimmery cream), Bust (shimmery cool-toned taupe), Guilt (glittery cool-toned pink), and Oil Slick (black with silver glitter)

IMG_5968_final

Interestingly, while Guilt is a pink eyeshadow, this somehow looks purple on my skin because of my strong yellow-olive undertones.

Pros:

  • As with most of the Urban Decay eyeshadows that I have tried before, all of the eyeshadows are very pigmented

Cons:

  • Guilt is a very powdery eyeshadow and kicks up a lot of fall out for me
  • My skin tone is so similar to Skimp that it does not show up on my skin

Would I purchase? Maybe.  Bust was a great color. Guilt was a nice color which I liked even though there was a lot of fall out. I am not sure how to use Oil Slick other than as a matte black, which doesn’t make use of the glitter.  Skimp does not work for my skin tone.

I’m so glad that I got a chance to use this.  I don’t often get to try out Urban Decay since it is not widely sold in Japan.  Thank you to my dear friend for gifting it to me!

Review: Nichido Eyeshadow in Bronze Eclair

Since starting blogging, I have found out that I am not the only one who buys tons and tons of eyeshadow that are similar shades of brown/taupe/whatever.  They go with everything!  I use them a lot!  They are all a little bit different!  Yes, I know these are all excuses…

I picked up only 1 eyeshadow while I was in the Philippines, and of course, it had to be another browny shade.  This is a review of the Nichido Eyeshadow in Bronze Eclair.

Nichido Bronze Eclair

Price: 68 PHP, around $1.50 USD.  This is an extremely affordable eyeshadow!

Swatch:

This is one swipe of the eyeshadow without primer. It is very pigmented!

NichidoBronzeEclairSwatch

Pros:

  • This is a very pigmented eyeshadow!
  • This product is very affordable

Cons:

  • If you look closely at the swatch, you can see that the product pills slightly.  This product has a very creamy eyeshadow. If I wear primer underneath, it creases like crazy
  • This product has a screw top, which is a bit of a pain to use

Would I repurchase? Maybe.  If you can get your hands on this product at the original price in the Philippines, I think it is a great value for money!

I hope you enjoyed my review!

Review: L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush

Beauty blogging introduced me to loose eyeshadows. I love the pigmentation and the colors that I can get from using loose eyeshadows, but they tend to get pretty messy.  When I first heard about the L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows, it sounded like the best of both worlds – I could get the pigmentation and color I wanted, without the mess.  It has been LOVE every since!

Before my most recent trip to the US, I heard some buzz about the Amber Rush color. A neutral Infallible? Sounds great to me!

What it does: (from the L’Oreal website)

For the 1st time ever, L’Oréal Paris introduces an ultra intense eye shadow that lasts from day until dawn—a full 24 hours. This revolutionary formula fuses the ease of a powder with the velvety caress of a cream to create a unique hybrid that glides on effortlessly. And with its unique technology, your eyes are enhanced with pure, magnified pigment. Make a lasting impression without batting an eye.

Intense, maximized color. Luxurious powder-cream texture. 24-hour long-lasting hold. Waterproof, crease resistant, fade resistant

Price: L’Oreal lists this product for $7.99.  As with all US drugstore products, the price may vary depending on where you buy it.

Swatch:

This product applies as a very rich coppery color.

IMG_5269_final

Availability: This and other L’Oreal products are widely available in US drugstores (such as Walgreens, CVS, etc) and supermarkets (Walmart, Target, etc)

Pros:

  • As with most other Infallible eyeshadows, this product has very good pigmentation.  The swatch above is one swipe on my bare skin!
  • I find that this product is best applied with my fingers. That means that with just one finger, I can get a great eye look with this product.
  • This is a great product to bring with me on vacation or when I don’t want to spend too much time getting ready in the morning.

Cons:

  • None, really, unless you count the fact that I keep wanting more of these!

Would I repurchase?  Yes!  Let me rephrase that – I would repurchase this if I ran out, and I will definitely be buying more of the Infallible eyeshadows.  But these each contain a lot of product, and I’m not even close to hitting pan on the ones that I have had for a long time!
