Review: Daiso Eyeliner Coat

I like wearing brown eyeliner on my lower lash line, but I found that it never lasts. Even if I use an eyeliner which is supposed to stay in place all day, I would get smudges under my eyes.  I found something called an eyeliner coat, and it has become one of the must haves in my makeup routine!

What it does:

The applicator looks like a liquid eyeliner pen, and I use it to paint over my eyeliner.

Price: 100 JPY, about $1

Availability:  This product is available in Daiso stores. Daiso is one of the most popular 100 yen chains in Japan.

What I thought:  I really like using this product! It is the only way I can get my lower eyeliner to stay!!  One drawback is that this product stings if it gets too close to my eyes, so I don’t use it for my waterline.

Would I repurchase?  Yes, it is one of my must have products!

Review: L’Oreal Infallible Eye Crayon in Gold

When I first got into beauty blogging, a cream eyeshadow crayon from a certain company was all the rage. I bought them online and tried them, but I found that they creased on my eyes, so I stopped using them.

How times have changed since then! There are many brands that have launched cream eyeshadow crayons, and the crease factor has gone down dramatically! This is a review of the L’Oreal Infallible Eye Crayon in Gold.

What it does: (from the L’Oreal website)

This ultra-intense smudge-proof eye crayon lasts from dawn until dusk and beyond, up to a full 24 hours. The smooth, creamy, long-wearing formula delivers easy-to-wear colour for any occasion. It’s now easy to create endless runway-inspired, colorful eye looks with just one product.

Price: Will vary depending on where it is purchased. The L’Oreal website lists this as $8

Availability: This product is widely available in US drugstores and supermarkets.

Swatch: This product is a very metallic gold.  It is a very creamy, highly pigmented color.

  • Very pigmented and creamy. I can use this on my lower lash line without tugging on my eyes
  • This product takes a few minutes to set, which means I can use the time to blend it

  • I did not feel that this product lasted on my eyes. When I wore it on my lower lash line, it tended to fade after a few hours.

Would I repurchase? Maybe.  While this was a pretty good product, I still prefer the Milani Shadow Eyez pencils for the staying power!

Review: Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Brown

Mascara is one of the first makeup products that I started wearing, back when I was a teenager. I loved how it made my eyes look bigger, and I still feel that it is one of the most “must have” products in my routine.

My mother, on the other hand, wears eyeliner but not mascara.  For a long time, I wasn’t sure how I felt about eyeliner. Somehow, it made my eyes look harsh. Every time I applied eyeliner, I felt that I was shouting “HELLO I’m wearing eyeliner!”.

Over the past few years, I have come to realize that dark brown pencil eyeliner is best for me.  It gives definition to my eyes without  looking too harsh or obvious. However, many Japanese makeup brands are dominated by black eyeliner, and liquid or gel eyeliner seems to be a favorite of Japanese girls. The combination of “dark brown” and “pencil” is so difficult to find, so when I find a product that matches both of those criteria, I grab for it!

This is a review of the Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Brown, which I picked up when I was in the US.

What it does: (from the Rimmel website)

Long lasting shocking color intensity with kohl Britania High intensity color for an instant color impact Ultra smooth & creamy formula that glides on easily Waterproof, smudge-proof, sweat-proof, heat-proof, humidity-proof and scandal- proof Dermatologist & ophthalmologist tested. Safe for sensitive eyes.

Rimmel ScandalEyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal

Price: As with all American drugstore products, the price will vary depending on where it is purchased. lists this product for $4.50

Availability:  This product is available at drugstores and supermarkets, such as Target, Walgreens, or CVS.

This is a cool-toned dark brown. It is extremely creamy, and in fact, the tip broke off during this swatch because I pressed too hard.

  • The color is exactly what I was looking for – a brown that is dark enough to give depth and shadow to my eyes, yet not look harsh
  • This product was very creamy, and applied to my eyes without pulling or skipping
  • This product is available in 10 different colors!

  • Unfortunately, this was not smudge proof on me. After a few hours, I got dark smudges under my eyes.

Would I repurchase? No. For me, the smudges are a deal-breaker!

My favorite eyeliner is still the Jordana 12HR Made To Last Eyeliner in Espresso Last. Definitely try it out if you are looking for an affordable pencil eyeliner!

Review: Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes

Since I visit the US only once every year or two, I never picked up the Sephora beauty gift. I realized later that you can pick one up every year regardless of whether it is your actual birthday month or not.  This is a review of the Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes eyeliner, part of the Sephora birthday gift for 2014.

What it does: (from the Sephora website)

A must have in your makeup bag, this waterproof eyeliner does not smudge or fade throughout the day. It’s formulated to glide on effortlessly, making it easy to define your eyes. Available in an array of vibrant shades, this liner is guaranteed to make your eyes pop.

Waterproof, highly pigmented, and smudge-proof, the Aqua collection of long-lasting lip and eye colors was created for the Parisian Aquatic Ballet. Tested under water for five hours, Make Up For Ever’s longest wearing makeup has an extensive palette of high-performance colors with non-stop results. This product is fragrance free and ophthalmologist tested.

Price: $19

Availability: This and other MUFE products are available at free standing Make Up For Ever stores, in department stores, Sephora, and on the MUFE website.

  • This was a very dark pigmented eyeliner!
  • This product is available in over 25 shades. If you are looking for a different shade of eyeliner, you might find it in the Aqua Eyes line up.

  • This product smudged on my eyes. Even though I was wearing it on my upper lash line, it transferred under my eyes A LOT.

Would I repurchase? No. I don’t understand how MUFE can claim that this is smudge proof, since this product smudged more than any eyeliner I have tried in recent years!

I’m disappointed that this eyeliner did not work for me, but I’m glad I got to try it.

If you are looking for a smudge proof pencil eyeliner, I suggest the Jordana 12 HR Made to Last eyeliner. It does not smudge on my eyes, and it is only $2.50!

Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero

This is a review of the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero.

I am not really sure how I got this product. I usually don’t buy expensive eyeliners, because there are quite a few drugstore products that I like. The UD eyeliner was hyped up a lot online at one point, so that may be why I decided to try it.

What it does: (from the Sephora website)
Glide on color that stays put for the duration of your nonstop, on-the-go day! These cushiony, creamy eye pencils deliver powerful, vibrant color that slides on smooth and stays soft and creamy for blending (about 30 seconds), then dries to a long-lasting finish that won’t budge. Line eyes with a hint of color or go for the full artistic, multi-hued effect. Truly inspired, these pencils go all day and all night.

Price: $20

Availability: Urban Decay products are available in the US at Sephora,, and on the Urban Decay website.

  • This is an extremely creamy eyeliner
  • Because it is so creamy, it applies easily without dragging the skin.
  • The color Zero is very black
  • This product comes in a very wide range of colors

  • This product transfers under my eyes… A LOT.  I need to wipe my undereye area multiple times a day.
  • The price!

Would I repurchase? No.  I am not sure why everyone loves this eyeliner. It gives me massive transfer under my eyes and does not set.

Instead of this product, I recommend the Jordana 12 HR Made to Last eyeliner.  It is just as creamy and pigmented, but does not transfer… and is only $2.50!
