Up and Down #15 / A Piece of Me… in June 2011

June 6 is Dragon Boat Festival Day in China and many other Asian countries.  It’s a day to eat Zongzi (rice wrapped in bamboo leaves with yummy things inside).  It is also the start of the summer, similar to Memorial Day in the US, even though school isn’t quite out yet over here.

Anyway, I’ll take any excuse to eat yummy things. (images via google search)

The sweet ones, filled with bean paste, seem to be more popular where I am.

I prefer the savory ones with pork (although this picture links to a NYC food truck…)

On to my Ups and Downs!

Ups:
Sonia Kashuk Brush Couture Flat Top Multipurpose Blush/Powder Brush
This brush was a gift from Kathy of Mai-Kat Oshaberi.  It gives me an airbrushed finish without the hassle of a conventional stippling brush.  A full review is coming up!

Sonia Kashuk Blusher Brush
This brush is also a gift from Kathy.  I like it better than my MAC blusher brush, and it’s less than half the price!

Wet ‘n Wild Mega Glow Illuminating Powder in Strike-A-Pose Rose
This was a gift from Diana. It’s a lovely shimmery rose blush, and it makes me look like I’ve been on vacation! (stock photo)

Cooking new dishes.  I love Chinese steamed fish.  The plus side: this was SUPER easy!

Couch to 5k!  I seriously need new shoes.  I’m using really old sneakers because I didn’t think I would be able to continue running for several weeks.  Has anyone tried Nike Frees?

Downs:
– 30+ degree weather.  That’s 85+ deg F.  I get up at 6:30 AM on weekends so that I can run before it gets too hot!

– Getting sick easily.  This is getting to be a pain.  If I don’t eat well for 1 week, I immediately get sick!  And when I get sick, my weight loss plan goes on hiatus until I get better!

– Having SUPER SLOW internet.  This is why I haven’t been posting/replying to comments/tweeting as much as I want to!

It’s time for A Piece of Me in June 2011.
This month…

I like: having a blogger meet up next week!!!!!

I don’t like: not being able to stay healthy.  Again.

I want you to know: that I’ve been purging my blog roll.  If I’ve deleted you but you want to stay on, please let me know!

I’ve planned: not anything, really! What do you have planned?

Thank You! Love from Sarah

When I was in Japan last month, Sarah sent me the earrings that I had asked her to make for me.  I ordered them a while ago, but due to my move, she wasn’t able to send them for a while.  I am so glad that she could send them to my hotel in Japan!

Gold wire-wrapped crystal baroques

I swooned when I saw these in person.  They go with everything I wear!  Thank you so much, Sarah!!!

Skin Food Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder
I got this from Sarah’s blog sale.  I love using this powder, and I’ve written a review of it previously.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
This really makes a huge difference!  Unfortunately, it costs about $25 in Japan.

Sarah is a sneaky girl… As usual, her package contained A LOT of extras!!!!!!

A cute pair of white and gold earrings
These are also extremely versatile!  I love them!!

Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon palette in Lust and Vanity
I’m itching to try these after MONTHS of reading about them on beauty blogs!!

Love from Diana/xmayaarix

As you already know, I really love to cook!   I read a lot of cooking blogs as well as makeup blogs,  and I kept seeing a certain tool which everyone seemed to use.

The Microplane Zester
(Image from google search)

I love citrus in my baked goods (I make a FANTASTIC lemon bar), but it’s really hard to get the zest with a normal zester!  Everyone was RAVING about this Microplane zester, so I had to find it! It is also very affordable, at around $10.  Unfortunately for me, the price in Japan was $30.

I looked EVERYWHERE for this while I was in New York, but I couldn’t find it!  Fortunately for me, Diana was kind enough to find it for me!

Yay!  Now I have my very own Microplane Zester!!!
Diana included this very sweet note:
“I hope you don’t mind the little extras”
Hello GENEROUS Lady!!!!  You not only were nice enough to go out of your way to find a cooking utensil for me, you even included extras!!!  And HELLO – this isn’t LITTLE!!!!
Rimmel Fix & Perfect Primer
(from my wishlist!)
Wet n Wild Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner
Diana says it’s even better than MAC fluidline!
Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in Rose Blush
No swatches yet, but here‘s a link to a review!
THANK YOU SO MUCH DIANA!!!
I’d been thinking of how I could make Latkes and Matzo Ball Soup!!!
And last, but definitely not least…

Chocolate covered bacon!!
HAHAHAHA!!! I burst out laughing when I saw this!
When Diana and I met up in New York, we had a conversation about this!
I was so intrigued about chocolate and bacon, that I went to Whole Foods to look for it.
Unfortunately for me, I could NOT find it!
Now I realize I was looking in the wrong aisle!  I was looking in the snack food aisle, when I should have been looking in the chocolate aisle!
I’ll enjoy this for sure!!!
Diana, thank you SO much for your generousity!
You can be sure I’m going to hit you back soon!
