Monthly Favorites #74: September, 2017

August was a weird month. Tokyo had 20+ days of continuous rain, even though it is supposed to be the hottest month of the year here.  With the lack of sun, my favorites weren’t as summery as they usually are at this time of year!

Here is what I have been loving this past month!

Sleek i-Divine Palette (Original)

I checked the Sleek website, and while this palette is still available, the picture online looks very different.

I especially like the bottom row, which has a lot of great neutral shimmery shades.

Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle (link goes to my review)

I heard that this product has been discontinued. Why Revlon, why???  These were such a great combination of lip gloss and lip stick, with a sheer color that was comfortable to wear.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche

This is a limited edition fragrance for the summer, which is modified each year. I own the one from 2016.

It’s a great combination of coconut, amber, and sandalwood, and is appropriate both for work and for fun.

What have you been loving this past month?

Monthly Favorites #68: September, 2016

I feel like August has just been hot, hot, hot.  Apparently, 2013 was a hotter summer, but this year has been really getting to me!

On to my favorites!

Sleek i-Divine palette in Storm

Apparently I’ve had this particular palette for the past 6 years… I originally bought this in 2009 in London, then gave it away, and got a new one the following year. This is a great palette if you like shimmery smokey colors, and is very pigmented.  Of all the Sleek palettes, this and the Original are the two that I recommend the most.

Maybelline Fit Me concealer

This is a concealer that I bought in the US after reading rave reviews online. I usually use thicker concealers, but this gives good coverage under my eyes. I have this in the color Sand, which is marginally too light for me right now.

L’Oréal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray

I’m so glad that drugstore brands are coming out with setting sprays! Now if only there were sprays that have antiperspirant properties as well!

What have you liked this past month?

Monthly Favorites #63: March, 2016

Wow, the days are definitely getting longer. Sunrise is much earlier!  It’s still pretty cold, though, and my skin is kind of dry.  Here are my favorites for this past month!

Muji Jojoba oil

I like to mix a drop of this into my moisturizer. I bought a small bottle, and it looks like it will last for a very long time.

Sleek i-Divine Safari Palette (link goes to my review)

I like the greenish brown shadows in this palette. The Sleek palettes are affordable and pigmented, especially if you purchase them in the UK.  The shadows have a lot of fall down, though, so I always need to tap my brush off.

MAC Mineralized Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle

I’m a big fan of the MAC MSFs, and I have several in my collection.  Although there is always a lot of hype over the limited edition MSFs, I found that this one from their permanent collection fits my skin tone the most.

Empties for October, November and December 2014

Here are the products I used up in the last 3 months of 2014! I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing my empties.  When I watch empties videos on Youtube, I amazed at how many products people can use up in a month.  It takes me a very long time to use up skin care products, and makeup takes forever!

Clinique Happy Eau de Parfum
I apply only a very small amount of perfume, so it’s amazing when I use up a bottle!  I remember picking this up at a CCO in London quite a few years ago.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer Treatment (link goes to my review)
This product made it in to my favorite products of 2014! That’s pretty amazing considering I picked it up expecting not to like it.

Bath and Body Works Cashmere Glow body lotion
I’m just about done with my BBW stash, just in time for another trip to the US!  This product smelled similar to the vanilla scents from BBW, but not quite as sweet.

Bath and Body Works True Blue Spa Super Rich Body Cream
This is part of the True Blue Spa line at BBW, and is thicker than their normal body lotions.

Sleek Vintage Pigment
I bought this product when I went to London, and pressed it into a pan.  It is a shimmery antique gold color which I got a lot of use out of.

Bath and Body Works Twilight Woods shower gel (link goes to my review)
This is a much loved, much repurchased product.

Bath and Body Works Tiki Beach 3-wick candle
This was the first 3-wick candle I purchased, and I learned that they are way too big for me, and also do not burn evenly in my home.  I’ll stick to the medium candles from now on!

Bath and Body Works Island Margarita 3-wick candle
You can see the soot at the top of the container, where the candle did not burn evenly!

DET Clear Fruit Enzyme Powder Wash
(link goes to my review)
This was a great facial cleanser for my skin, with gentle exfoliating properties.

Urban Decay 24-7 eyeliner pencil in Zero and Whiskey (link goes to my review)
I got the Urban Decay Naked palette when it still came with this pencil, and now it is available to buy individually! From trying out this pencil, I found out that I definitely need to use brown eyeliner on my lower lash line as black looks too harsh. This was a great eyeliner, but I still love Jordana pencils more (and they are much, much more affordable!)

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation (link goes to my review)
This product made it into my favorites numerous times. It feels lighter on the skin compared to the original Revlon Colorstay, but it did not last on my skin as well.

Skinfood Fermented Soy Milk Wrinkle Care Sleeping Mask (link goes to my review)

Sleeping masks are a hassle-free way to give your skin some pampering.  Just slather it on and go to sleep! It is surprising to me that while sleeping masks are popular in Korean cosmetic brands, I have never seen them in other countries.

Asian Secrets Lulur Indonesian Whitening Facial Scrub (link goes to my review)

This is a very affordable skin care product that I picked up while I was in the Philippines. It did brighten my face, but the scrub was a little harsh.

I enjoy reading other bloggers’ empties posts because the reviews tend to be more in depth, and I can find a lot of great products that I want to try next.  Hope that my empties post inspires you to try some of these products as well!

Review: Sleek Makeup i-Divine palette in Acid

This is a review of the Sleek Makeup i-Divine palette in Acid. Sleek eyeshadow palettes are mineral based and often shimmery, but this palette contains 9 matte colors and only 3 shimmery colors.

What it does: (from the Sleek website)
Sleek MakeUP’s legendary i-Divine palettes are 12 shades of super-pigmented, longlasting, mineral based eyeshadow, designed to suit all. Each i-Divine contains pearlescent shades, which contain mica particles that highlight and illuminate giving an overal radiant effect.
Acid contains a fusion of vibrant colour for the more daring. With a hyper bright pink to neon green and yellow amongst the 12 shades. Each shade can be worn alone for a dramatic look or mixed for a colourful rainbow effect.

Price: $11.99 on the Sleek website. 7.99 GBP ($13.34 USD) on the Superdrug or Boots website.

Availability: Sleek is a British brand.  In the UK, it is widely available at both Superdrug and Boots, two of the biggest British drugstores. Sleek products are also shipped globally through the Sleek website.

Swatches: (swatches on bare skin)

Top 6 colors
Bottom 6 colors

  • Most of the colors had pretty good pigmentation
  • If you like neon colors, this palette is an affordable option
  • There is also a matte black included to tie the look together

  • The white eyeshadow was rock solid and did not swatch well even on my finger.
  • In general, the shimmery colors (the 2 blues on the top and the 1 blue on the bottom) have better pigmentation
  • I am not sure why Sleek decided that the 3 blue eyeshadows should all be pigmented?

Would I repurchase? No. Although in general I like Sleek products and the i-Divine eyeshadow palettes, I would pass on this one. If you want neon eyeshadows, there are several indie brands which have better products.

Unfortunately this product did not work for me, but I hope I can pick up some more i-Divine eyeshadow palettes and Sleek products next time I am in the UK!

Hope you enjoyed this review!
