Review: Skinfood Buckwheat Loose Powder

This is a review for the Skinfood Buckwheat Loose Powder. I bought this when I went to Seoul.

The lighting changed the color of this product a lot. The real color is somewhere between these 2 pictures.

This product comes with a sifter (not resealable) and a puff. I don’t use either.

What it does: (from Skinfood.sg)
Soft silky powder completes a radiant make up with blooming effect. Buckwheat oil prolongs blooming effect and leaves make up long lasting.

Price: Around 8000 Won (around $7)

Pros:

  • This is a finely milled powder, and did not leave my face looking cakey
  • This product is available in 4 different colors (2 skin colors, translucent, and lavender). I bought the darker of the 2 skin colors since I’m usually the darker color for Skinfood BB creams, but I should have gotten the lighter one
  • Cheap, if you buy it in Korea

Cons:

  • If you are looking for oil control, silica powder works better. It is also more affordable if you buy it online
  • I have no idea what a “blooming” effect is.

Would I repurchase? Probably not.  Silica powder works for me even in the winter, and it does not leave a white cast on my face.

Through visiting the stores in Korea, and playing with this and other products, I learned that I am not a fan of Skinfood’s color cosmetics, excluding their Aloe BB Cream.  There are some interesting skin care products, although some of them are not worth the markup online.

A few items I did like from Skinfood are their Shea Butter Hair Mask and their Fermented Pomegranate Sleeping Mask.  Click the links to see my reviews! (Warning: the reviews are old… you can see how far I’ve come in the past 3 years)

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Products I have repurchased – Makeup

I was planning on doing a Favorites list for the first half of 2011, just like I did last year.  To change it up a little bit, I went through the products I’ve reviewed since I began blogging, and here is a list of products I have actually repurchased.

I also have a page listing all the products I’ve reviewed before. I am in the process of updating it to show which products I would repurchase.  You can also request a review of products through this page or through twitter.

On to the list! (links go to the reviews for each product)

Makeup
Barry M Dazzle Dusts part 1 & part 2
I love the Barry M Dazzle Dusts so much!  Pressing them makes them so easy to use.  They are vibrant and very pigmented.

-VOV Castledew Watershot Foundation part 1 & part 2
This foundation feels so light on my skin and still gives me enough coverage!

Maybelline the Colossal Volum Express Mascara
This mascara met my two main criteria: it gave me great volume and didn’t smudge under my eyes! This is the only product in this post that I have actually not repurchased yet. I’m sure Maybelline will come out with another mascara before I get to hit a US drugstore!

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Foundation Primer
This was a great base for my foundation and a great alternative to silicone-based primers. A word of caution though – other bloggers have mentioned it made their foundation oxidize.

Skinfood Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder
This is very similar to the MUFE HD powder, and it controls oil very well.  This is a staple in my makeup routine.

That’s all for the makeup! Stay tuned for the skin care products I would repurchase!

Review: Skinfood Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream SPF20 PA+

This is a review of the Skinfood Mushroom Multi Care BB Cream. I have the color #2 Natural Skin.  I purchased this when I went to Korea.

swatched

Blended

What it does: This triple-function BB cream provides UV protection and deep moisturization to skin with aloe and mushroom extracts, while arbutin and adenosine make skin clear and resilient.
(from Skinfood’s website)

Price: 12,900 Won (about $12 US) in Korea. Prices will vary online.

Pros:
– this was a great color match for my skin
– sheer to medium coverage
– dewy finish, good for drier skins
– contains SPF. However SPF20 PA+ is not enough for daily use. Be sure to wear a sunscreen underneath!

Cons:
– I still needed concealer for my undereye circles
– This product took a long time to set. I would put on this BB cream, then do my entire eye makeup including mascara and eyebrows, before doing any powder or blush.
– I still needed powder to set this product.

Would I repurchase? No.  This was not matte enough for my oily-combination skin.  I would recommend this for people with drier skin.

Skinfood has recently come out with several BB creams, but the Mushroom BB cream is one of the originals. This is a great product to pick up if you can get it at a reasonable price.  I’ve seen this online for $30, but I wouldn’t spend that much on it!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Thank You! Love from Sarah

When I was in Japan last month, Sarah sent me the earrings that I had asked her to make for me.  I ordered them a while ago, but due to my move, she wasn’t able to send them for a while.  I am so glad that she could send them to my hotel in Japan!

Gold wire-wrapped crystal baroques

I swooned when I saw these in person.  They go with everything I wear!  Thank you so much, Sarah!!!

Skin Food Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder
I got this from Sarah’s blog sale.  I love using this powder, and I’ve written a review of it previously.

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
This really makes a huge difference!  Unfortunately, it costs about $25 in Japan.

Sarah is a sneaky girl… As usual, her package contained A LOT of extras!!!!!!

A cute pair of white and gold earrings
These are also extremely versatile!  I love them!!

Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon palette in Lust and Vanity
I’m itching to try these after MONTHS of reading about them on beauty blogs!!

L’Oreal De-Crease and NYC Lip Slider

Candy!!!

Thank you again, Sarah!!!

Up & Down #6 / A Piece of Me… in September 2010

It’s time for my monthly Ups & Downs!

Ups:

– VOV Castledew Watershot Foundation

I bought this from Sarah, and it is my go-to foundation for the summer.  It is lightweight and dries to a smooth finish.

– Sonia Kashuk Flat Top Brush

The second month in a row!  I love using it with the VOV foundation.  I think there are a lot of reviews on this already, but please let me know if you’d like one.

– Skinfood Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder

When I set my makeup with this powder, my skin is smooth and oil-free for much longer than when I use any other setting powder!  You can read my review here.

– Getting to chat with bloggers such as Joey Bunny, Sheila, and Christine.  You don’t know how much better I feel after getting to chat with you!

– A new domain!

Downs:
– Not wanting to go out on weekends because it’s just too hot
– Sweating while putting on makeup.
– Working out the bugs from moving to a new domain and changing my blog name at the same time

It’s the time of the month to join Notes from the Toothfairy in A Piece of Me!

This month…
I like: that I’m traveling again!  Yay!

I don’t like: that I’m lemming for products I can’t get in Japan (Orly Nail Polishes in Space Cadet and Galaxy Girl)

I want you to know: that I’m looking for a new banner!

I’ve planned: to be super unplanned this month!  There is a few big “unknowns” around the corner for me, and I’m super excited!

I want to say to someone special: that good things come to people who try hard and work hard.  Figure out what it is that you are not satisfied with, and decide what you are going to do about them.  Or, things will always stay the same.

Hope your September goes well!  What products have you loved this past month?
