Throwback: Favorites from February

Here is a look back at my favorites from February 2014 and 2015.

In February 2015, I liked:

L’Oreal Infallible Eye Shadow Crayon in Everlasting Gold

I effectively used this up!  It was a great chubby eye pencil, equally good as an eye base and as an all over eyeshadow.

Nichido 7x Volume Curl mascara (link goes to my review)

Nichido is a local brand that I found in the Philippines. These products were super affordable, and I liked this mascara a lot. If I ever have a chance to go to the Philippines again, I will definitely check this out!

Airless pump for foundation

I get these airless pump bottles at Daiso and other 100 yen stores. They are made of plastic, and are a hygienic way to store your foundations that come without a pump!

In February 2014, I liked:

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (link goes to my review)
I currently use sponges to apply my foundation, but if you like brushes better, this is the foundation brush that I recommend. It is soft, very affordable, and buffs your foundation in to a natural finish.
Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Misbehaved
(picture from my instagram account)
I haven’t been wearing anything on my nails in a very long time… They are no longer shown on the Sally Hansen website, so it looks like they may have been discontinued!  Oh dear – I liked them a lot!
Ahh yes, one of my favorite foundations ever. I think I talk about this product waaayyyy too much! This is only one of two foundations that I have ever repurchased.
Hope you enjoyed seeing my past favorites!

Throwback: Favorites from December

I’m a little behind on my throwbacks again… but let’s take a look!  Here are my favorite products from December 2013 and 2014.

In December 2014, I liked:

Sally Hansen Salon Effects (link goes to my review)

I really, really loved these. This is the only way I could do my nails, since I just can’t handle waiting for my nails to dry.  I’ve been too busy to do my nails for the past year or so, but I still love these, especially with a gel topcoat.

Jordana Color Tint Brush Sticks (link goes to my review)

Ahhh I loved these! I wanted to pick up some more Jordana products when I was in the US this past spring, but they were no where to be found!  The only place I could find them was on Jordana’s website.

Baby oil

This is what I use to moisturize my body.  Recently, I have been using olive oil instead, since the fragrance in baby oil was irritating my skin.  Plus, olive oil is cheaper!

In December 2013, I liked:

Sally Hansen Salon Effects

See, I really loved these!

Revlon ColorStay Whipped Creme Foundation (link goes to my review)

As I mentioned in a previous throwback, I no longer recommend this foundation. I loved it for a very long time, but it is simply too expensive for a drugstore foundation. I also don’t like the packaging, which is way to bulky!

Kiko Automatic Precision eyeliner in the color 712 (link goes to my review)

I had heard so much about Kiko, and I was so excited to go to a store when I was in Italy. The prices were very affordable, and I really enjoyed this brown eyeliner.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my past favorites!

Throwback Thursday: Favorites from February

Here is a look back at the products I liked in February 2014 and 2013.

In February 2014, I liked:

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (link goes to my review)

This is still one of my favorite foundation brushes. It blends foundation very easily, it is very affordable, and it is even cruelty free.  The downside is that the black part of the handle is rubber and tends to break down after about a year or so.  I still recommend this brush if you like to buff in your foundation.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Misbehaved

I haven’t been wearing anything on my nails recently, but I still choose Sally Hansen Salon Effects over traditional nail polish. I also feel that the Sally Hansen nail strips are the easiest to use and also the most affordable.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup

I used up a whole bottle of this liquid foundation, which is amazing! When I went to buy a new one, I found that the color names of this foundation are different between different countries!  Be careful if you are buying online in a place where you can’t return makeup.

In February 2013, I liked:

Sephora Pro Airbrush Concealer Brush #57

I haven’t been using brushes to buff in my concealer lately. Maybe I will start using this brush again!

Hope you enjoyed this look back at my old favorites!

Throwback Thursday: Favorites from December

A little late, but better than never, right?  In this post, I am revisiting my favorites from December 2012 and 2013.

In December 2013, I liked:

Sally Hansen nail strips with gel topcoat

I haven’t been doing my nails recently, but I still love this combination. Considering how infrequently I do my nails, nail strips are the way to go.

Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation (link goes to my review)

I really loved this foundation, but this is not my favorite anymore. I’ve found other foundations which work better for me in both the warmer and cooler months.

Kiko Automatic Precision Eyeliner in 712 (link goes to my review)

How interesting that I loved another brown twist up eyeliner from a European brand! I currently am enjoying another such eyeliner from Catrice.

In December 2012, I liked:

L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadows (link goes to my review)

I still love these, in every color that I own.  I should really do a round up, but I keep forgetting!

L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Iced Latte

Hope you enjoyed this look back at my favorites!

Favorites of 2014

Here are my favorites from 2014! If you are interested in seeing my past favorites, I have done an annual roundup for 20132012,2011, 2010, and 2009.

Skin Care

Best makeup remover: Shiseido TISS Deep Off cleansing oil (link goes to my review)

I went back to this product this year. It removes every trace of makeup quickly and easily, including waterproof eye makeup, and rinses clean without any residue.

Best sunscreen: Biore UV Perfect Milk sunscreen (link goes to my review)

We all know that we should wear sunscreen religiously, but some sunscreens are just uncomfortable. This product is light, easy to apply, and doesn’t leave my skin sticky… all with SPF 50+.

Best foundation: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place makeup

I love how this foundation looks and I love how it lasts, but I did not like that there was no pump. Imagine my surprise when I realized that a pump I had lying around the house (from Daiso, no less) was an EXACT match!  (photo from my Instagram)

Best BB cream: Martha Tilaar Caring Colours Everlast BB Cream (link goes to my review)

Definitely pick this up if you have a chance to go to Indonesia. Somehow, it makes my skin look good, even though I can see the discoloration on my skin.

Best concealer: Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer Treatment (link goes to my review)

I picked this up in New York just because of all the hype online, with the full intent of doing a negative review. Surprisingly, it not only made my under eye circles look better, it also lasted on my skin.

Best eyeshadow: Milani Shadow Eyez eyeshadow pencil (link goes to my review)

Definitely one of the best finds of the year! I went to no less than 5 drugstores before I found them, and they were definitely worth the effort!!  Creamy, good pigmentation, and no creasing!!!

Best eyeliner (tie): Dejavu Lasting Fine R Pencil eyeliner (link goes to my review)

Black liquid eyeliner is what most Japanese girls use, hence finding a brown pencil eyeliner already has 2 strikes against me. Not only does this product fit my needs, it even lasts on my lower lashline.  Because it is so thin, it also looks incredibly natural.

Best eyeliner (tie): Jordana 12HR Made To Last Eyeliner in Espresso Last

Why did I wait so long to try this? This eyeliner is creamy, pigmented, and only $2.50!!! I will definitely be picking up a few more next time I am in the US!

Best blush: Jordana Color Tint Blush Stick in Blushed (link goes to my review)

Another hit product from Jordana! I remember being in the aisle of a drugstore in US, looking up product recommendations from a trusted blogger who loves cheap products. This year has been the year of cream blushers – I probably wore powder blushes for only 2 months out of 12!

Best lipstick shade: Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in 340 To Nude or Not To Nude?

Most lipsticks make the skin on my lips peel, and I consider it a normal part of wearing lipstick. I was so surprised to finally find a lipstick I can wear without flakey skin coming off throughout the day! Not really a traditional “My Lips But Better” shade, but this warm pink color with shimmer makes my entire face look better.

Other beauty products

Best body lotion: Johnson and Johnson Baby Oil (link goes to my review)

For most of the year, I use many different body lotions, with no specific favorite. This winter, needing more protection, I started using baby oil.  I almost never repurchase body lotions, but I have purchased this multiple times already.

Best nail product: Sally Hansen Salon Effects

Another product that I love and that I purchase every time I am in the US. I wear these with a gel topcoat over them.   I love how they look and I love the cute patterns!  I especially like Misbehaved  and Laced Up (shown below).

Best hair product: Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray

I always liked the windblown look, but somehow I could only make it work when I was traveling to a tropical location.  Now that my hair is shorter, I use this spray every day to achieve the look!

Best new product: Shirt Cool Spray (link goes to my review)

Japan is hot and humid in the summer, and is also a country where you are expected to walk places. This spray kept me cool for a full 30 minutes after applying!

Best new brush: Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Why have I not reviewed this product yet? I love this brush and have been using it consistently since this spring. It is great for applying foundation, concealer, and cream blushers! I should purchase another one since I use it so much!!

Best overall tool: Reusable Cotton Rounds (link goes to my review)

If you use cotton rounds for anything, buy these!  No more throwing out cotton after one use, no more spending money on expensive imported cotton rounds! (Although to be honest, the Shiseido Cotton pads that are hyped on Youtube are very affordable in Japan!)

Major highlight of my life

I have lost weight… and am continuing to do so

I changed my eating and exercising regiment since late June, and have lost about 8 kg. It is not easy, especially since I easily overeat when I go somewhere. Hopefully I will finally get to a “normal” weight!

Thanks again for a great 2014, and hope you have a wonderful 2015!

xoxo, K
