Empties for September and October 2015

Wow, I used up a lot of products in the past few months. I usually go for months and months without doing empties posts, but I just did one 2 months ago!

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation for Oily/Combination Skin

This was the first liquid foundation I bought (obviously not the same bottle!) and I keep going back to it. It is sold in Japan with a pump, but the price is more than twice the price in the US!

NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Rikugien (link goes to my review)

This was part of the birthday gift from Sephora. Although it was not a full sized product, it was enough to last for a long time! I wish all brands sold lipsticks in smaller amounts than they do today.

Jordana Color Tint Blush Stick in Blushed (link goes to my review)

I bought this in New York 1.5 years ago, and I can’t tell you how many times it has made it into my favorites since then. I loved this product so much! If you are interested in trying out a cream blush, this is the one I recommend, especially since the price is so affordable!

Martha Tilaar Caring Colours Everlast BB Cream (link goes to my review)

This is a local Indonesian product that I bought when I lived there. Although it didn’t have heavy coverage, somehow it managed to make my skin look better. I really enjoyed using this product in the summer.

Nivea Sun Protect Water Gel SPF 50 PA+++

During the summer, I go through tons of sunscreen!

Noevir Cleansing Crystals (link goes to my review)

This was a powdered facial cleanser that did a fairly good job of promoting cell turnover. However, this is quite a pricy product, and there are other facial cleansers that work well at a lower price.

Kose Softymo blotting sheets

Not my favorite blotting sheets but they got the job done. I’m glad I am through with these!

IMG_7195

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Energy Orange Ginger shower gel (link goes to my review)

This is probably my favorite scent from Bath and Body Works!

IMG_7036

Gatsby Ice Deodorant Body Papers (link goes to my review)

These are a must have for me in the summer. I even kept one package at home, one package at work, and had a travel pack to carry around in my bag!

Rohto Z! eye drops

Who remembers when these were all the rage on the beauty community? These eye drops deliver MASSIVE menthol coolness, and are not for the light hearted!  Actually, Rohto has come out with an even stronger line recently!

Empties for July and August, 2015

Here are my empties from July and August. There is a TON of sunscreen since I apply it religiously, especially during the summer.

Lush Olive Branch Shower Gel (link goes to my review)

This was a gift from a co-worker. This product smells of bergamot, which is a citrusy scent without being sharp. It is a very unisex scent which I think appeals to many people.

Stella by Stella McCartney Eau de Parfum

This is my go to perfume, and has been for many years. It is a rose scent with amber notes, making it feminine without being old fashioned. I cannot find it in Japan, nor can I buy it at the airport duty free, so I need to wait until my next trip to the US to buy it. I heard that it has been reformulated recently – I need to get the travel spray so that I can find out before I buy my next bottle.

Sea Breeze Deo + Water deodorant (link goes to my review)

This has been my go to deodorant for many years. It is a very strong menthol spray, so I can also apply it to cool off. The orange bottle (the soap scent) is the one I normally buy, but I found this new line of blue bottles which are supposedly even more cooling.  I transfer this to a spray bottle before using it, because this bottle is extremely hard to use for such a liquidy product.

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum (link goes to my review)

I liked the product itself, and I loved that it has a pump. However, I didn’t like how heavily scented it was, and also it is quite expensive for a drugstore product.

Eucerin Intensive Repair Extra-Enriched Hand Creme (link goes to my review)

This is a great hand cream for me all year around, except in the middle of summer. It is absorbed without leaving any residue, leaves my hands feeling very moisturized, and is affordable.

IMG_6989

L’Occitane Honey hand cream

This was a travel-sized hand cream that I kept in my purse. While I liked the hand cream itself, the honey scent is quite strong. I don’t like applying such strongly scented products in public because it may offend people around me, so it took me a while to get through this product. I can’t find it any more on L’Occitane’s website, so I assume it has been discontinued.

Biore UV Perfect Milk Sunscreen SPF 50+ (link goes to my review)

This used to be my favorite sunscreen year round, and it is still my favorite for the cooler months. I’ve realized recently that I prefer gel formulas for the summer though, as even this milky product feels sticky. If you dislike alcohol in your skin care products, I still recommend this one.

IMG_6995

Menturm The Sun UV gel SPF 50+

This has been my favorite sunscreen this summer, but unfortunately it is not easy to find. I usually stayed away from Menturm sunscreens because they were thick and left a white cast, but this one was pretty good!

IMG_7024

Nivea Protect Water Gel Super SPF 50+

This was an OK product. Some gel sunscreens pill on me or flake off, but this one did not.

IMG_6985
Nivea Sun Protect Plus Waterproof UV Milk SPF 50+

Between this product and the one above, I prefer the other one. It also has more product!

It’s still summer here in Japan, so I’ll be using up a few more sunscreens. SPF is important all year around!

Review: Nivea Skin Milk in Shittori – Nivea hand cream in a bottle?

This is a review for the Nivea Skin Milk in Shittori.  Many moisturizing products in Japan, such as lotions, toners, and creams, come in 2 versions – Shittori (“moist” = more moisturizing) and Sappari (“refreshing” = less moisturizing).

Due to the dry climate of where I lived in China, I started putting body lotion on my body regularly, even in the summer.  When I moved back to Japan, I stopped doing so because I thought that the climate was humid enough for me.  I was so wrong! Unfortunately, my entire body started itching, similar to a year ago when I woke up in the middle of the night from scratching myself!

What it does: (from Nivea’s website)
This body lotion keeps your body’s natural moisture
Protects your body from dryness and other external environmental damage

Contains taurine, an occlusive, to slow the evaporation of moisture
(Note: In Japan, Nivea is owned by Kao, a major cosmetics company)

Price: Will vary, Amazon Japan has this at around 500-600 JPY for 200ml (around $7 USD)

Pros:

  • very moisturizing. My skin did not feel dry until I showered again.
  • smells like the traditional Nivea hand cream
  • Packaging is easy to hold and easy to control how much product is squeezed out

Cons:

  • This product is very hard to spread.  If you’ve ever tried the traditional Nivea hand cream, you’ll know that it is hard to massage on your hands and tends to pull. This is similar.

Would I repurchase? Maybe. This is a great body lotion to moisturize my body. Hopefully I can find something which is as moisturizing but that I can spread easily!

What is your favorite body lotion? Hope you enjoyed this review!
