Throwback: Favorites from January

Here is a look back at my favorites from January 2014 and 2015. Can you believe that 2015 is already 2 years ago!?

In January 2015, I liked:

Nichido Multiple Stick in South Beach (link goes to my review)

Nichido is a local brand in the Philippines. It is quite affordable, and I really liked this blush.

Nichido 7x Volume Curl mascara (link goes to my review)

This is another Nichido product that I enjoyed. And it was only $7!

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray (link goes to my review)

LOVE! I really enjoy salt sprays in my hair, and the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray is the original. It smells great, and the mist is distributed in my hair evenly. There are drugstore salt sprays available now, but I have a soft spot for this product.

In January 2014, I liked:

Martha Tilaar Caring Colours BB cream (link goes to my review)

Martha Tilaar is a local Indonesian brand, and I really, really enjoyed this BB cream. It was affordable, made my skin look even, and stayed on in the hot humid weather.

L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadows in Forever Pink and Sahara Treasure

I still love the L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadows, and I’m always on a hunt for new colors.

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Creme Brulee (link goes to my review)

This is a great line for people like me who don’t wear lipstick on a regular basis.  I especially like this color to tone down lipsticks which are too bright.

Neutrogena Wet Skin SPF 85+

I always buy a bottle of this when I go to Hawaii, and I end up using it all in the week or so that I am there. Spray sunscreens are very convenient, but liquid sunscreens seem to provide better protection for me. However, in the end, the key is to apply sunscreen regularly, so I’ll use whatever works.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my past favorites!

Throwback Thursday: Favorites from January

This is very late, but here is a look back at the products I liked in January 2014 and 2013!

For more information on each product, click on the links to go to my reviews!

In January 2014, I liked:

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes

These are a long time favorite of mine, and I pick up a package whenever I am in the US. I have tried other makeup remover wipes since then, but these still win!

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Energy

This is probably my favorite Bath and Body Works scent. It smells slightly sweet, slightly gingery, and slightly citrus-y.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye

I have never really found an eye cream that I felt worked… except for this. It is a gel-like consistency, which works great on my oily eyes.

Martha Tilaar Caring Colours Everest BB Cream

This is a local Indonesian BB cream that I picked up after reading a few Indonesian beauty blogs. It had decent coverage and lasted even in the hot and humid weather. I was a little sad when I finished it!

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows

These have been a hit since they first came out, and I can’t stop hunting for the next greatest color. My current top favorite is Amber Rush, but there are quite a few colors to choose from.

In January 2013, I liked:

Lush Olive Branch Shower Gel

This is one of my favorite Lush shower gels. I’ve found that I really like bergamot scents, as well as other woody scents which are not overly feminine.

Laneige Water Sleeping Pack Ex

I picked up this pack in Korea, but since then, Laneige products have become more widely available. This product, for example, can be found on the Target website!

L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara

This mascara made my lashes thicker without clumps, and made it look like I had more lashes. It also did not transfer under my eyes, which is my biggest complaint with most mascaras.

Hope you enjoyed this look back to my old favorites!

Review: Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick

This is a review of the Neutrogena Moisture Smooth Color Stick. I have this in the color 10 Juicy Peach.

Last time I was in the US, I noticed that many brands had released lipsticks in chubby pencil form. I tried a few of them, but I am quite picky about my lipsticks since my lips peel easily. I picked up this one from Neutrogena after reading several reviews online.

Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick

What it does: (from the Neutrogena website)

Instantly moisturize lips, while continuously conditioning them so they are softer and smoother in just 3 days with nothing on them. Made with fruit extracts along with mango and shea butter, the balm-like formula glides on easily, providing a sheer wash of moisturizing color that lasts for hours. In addition, the twist up package allows for perfect application each time – with no sharpener needed.

Price: As with all US drugstore products, the price will vary depending on where you buy it. Target.com lists this product for $8

Availability: Although Neutrogena is not the most popular of makeup brands, I was able to find this product at several drugstores

Pros:

  • Very moisturizing. I felt like I was applying a balm
  • I like that this is a twist up product, so I don’t have to worry about sharpening it
  • This color is very natural looking and was a great everyday color

Cons:

  • This product has a very fruity scent which was quite noticeable
  • The color is sheer and did not last on my lips. I personally don’t mind, since I would rather reapply lipstick than have my lips peel from a drying product
  • This product only comes in 8 colors, which is pretty limited compared to other brands

Would I repurchase? Maybe. I liked the format and the color of this product.  Maybe if I find another color that I am interested in, I will buy another one.

In general, I would recommend this product if you are looking for a chubby lipstick pencil, as long as you can find a color that you like, and you are looking for something which is not that pigmented.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair serum

This is a review of the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair serum.  It is a little difficult to find products with Retinol in them in Japan, so I buy a few when I am in the US.  This is one such product.

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum

What it does: (from the Neutrogena website)

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum instantly smoothes skin and delivers visible results in just one week! By combining a unique combination of Retinol SA, Glucose Complex, and Hyaluronic Acid, the lightweight, silky serum moisturizes and renews the look of skin throughout the day, and helps to reduce fine fines and wrinkles and diminish the look of age spots. Skin is left feeling smooth and looking younger.

Price: The Neutrogena website lists this product for $21.  I was amazed that many skin care products in US drugstores are quite expensive!

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum

Availability: This product is available in selected drugstores and supermarkets. I found this at Target.

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair serum

Pros:

  • This has a light texture and absorbs easily into my skin
  • Although this product contains retinol, I did not have any irritation although I used it twice a day
  • The pump is hygienic and easy to use
  • I felt that my skin tone improved with use

Cons:

  • The price. I just feel that $21 is expensive for a drugstore product, even if it contains retinol. At this price point, I am torn between spending the money on it, or spending more money on something from the department store.
  • This product is scented heavily.

Would I repurchase? No. While I liked the product itself, I prefer less perfumed products for my skin care.

Do you use any retinol products? Please let me know if you have a favorite!

Skin care and makeup must-haves for a summer resort

My trip to Hawaii was fantastic!  Since Japan is pretty cold right now, I had to make a huge adjustment to my skin care and makeup when I got to Hawaii.  This is a round up of some products which are essential to me when I travel to a summer resort.
I did a summer must-haves post a few years ago. My summer resort must-haves are a little different, since it assumes that I don’t need to look “work appropriate”.  These are not the only products I brought with me on vacation. These are the products that I brought specifically because of the weather.
Makeup
BB cream or tinted moisturizer
I like a little coverage even when I’m on vacation, and I also like to look effortless. A BB cream or tinted moisturizer is the right product for me.  Right now, I like the Martha Tilaar Caring Colours BB cream, a local Indonesian product I picked up while I lived in Jakarta.

Eyeshadow that I can swipe on with my finger
I picked the L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadows in Forever Pink and Sahara Treasure, and the Maybelline 24 hour Color Tattoo in Barely Branded. I don’t need a brush to apply these, and they look great just by themselves.
Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Creme Brulee
These were super popular in the beauty blogger world a while ago, and I picked one up in Hawaii. This is another easy product which gives a little bit of color to my lips. I’m looking for a pink-peach one to pick up next – any suggestions?

Skin Care

Broad spectrum spray sunscreen
This time, I bought Neutrogena Wet Skin SPF 85+ because I wanted a sunscreen that I could apply even if I was sweating or wet from the ocean.  It is a little bit hard for me to find spray sunscreens in Japan!
As I mentioned several times before, I apply sunscreen quite rigorously because I don’t want to tan, but unfortunately I did while I was in Hawaii.
A light eye cream
I like to bring a light eye cream to help recover from sun damage.  This is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair eye cream. It is a light gel which absorbs easily into my skin.
Hair products
Dry shampoo
This is the L’Oreal EverStyle Energizing dry shampoo. I like to use dry shampoo to give my hair some volume at the roots. Dry shampoos are hard to find in Japan.
Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray
When I’m in a summer resort, I like to go for a beachy wavy look. I apply dry shampoo to my roots and this surf spray to the ends of my hair.  This gives me the summer-y look that I want.
I really had a great time in Hawaii, and I am preparing blog posts sharing some of the places I went.  I hope that I can go back to Hawaii soon!
What do you bring when you go to a summer resort?
