Empties from November 2016 – March 2017

Here are some of my empties from the recent months!

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural N9 (link goes to my review)

I received this as part of the Sephora birthday gift. I loved this color, and the texture also worked well with my lips.

I wish all lipsticks came in this size!

NO7 Dramatic Lift Mascara

I bought this mascara after reading many great reviews, but unfortunately it smudged on me!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl eyeliner

I liked this eyeliner pencil, and the color was a little bit lighter than what I usually use.

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (link goes to my review)

I really liked this eyeshadow primer! It made my eyeshadow last very well!

Kao Sofina Prima Vista primer (link goes to my review)

This primer is really popular in Japan! It made my foundation last throughout the day, even though it didn’t keep my skin fully matte.

L’Oréal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray

I’m so glad that drugstore brands are coming out with setting sprays!

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche

This is a limited edition perfume that Estee Lauder launches each summer.  I loved this so much that I bought a full size bottle!

Seabreeze Deo + Water Deodorant (link goes to my review)

This is my staple deodorant and I go through it quite frequently!

Lush Yuzu and Cocoa shower gel (link goes to my review)

This is the most recent Lush body wash that I bought.  It is an interesting scent, a mixture of citrus and chocolate.

Muji Jojoba oil

I purchased this oil last winter to combat my dry skin. It worked well, but I think I prefer a lighter oil

Hope you enjoyed to see my empties!

Review: NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

Eyeshadow primer is one type of product which I really cannot find in Japan. I always stock up when I am in the US.  I like UDPP, and my drugstore go-to is the Milani eyeshadow primer.  I got a sample of the NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, and I was really excited to try it.

What it does: (from the Sephora website)

A lightweight primer that creates a seamless canvas that keeps cream and powder eye color looking brilliant, fresh, and just-applied all day. This smudge-proof eyeshadow base uses a unique polymer and mineral powder blend to get a firm grip on color for long-lasting, gorgeous wear. Fortified with a special deep-sea extract and an antioxidant rice extract, it dries on contact and keeps the delicate eye lid smooth and ready for eyeshadow application.

Price: $26 for 7ml.  By comparison, the Urban Decay Primer Potion is $20 for 10ml

Availability: NARS is available at Sephora and select department stores in the US.

What I thought:

When I first touched the tube, I thought it was very similar to other NARS products with a rough silicone finish. I was concerned that it would get pretty dirty quickly, and I was right!

I opened the top to find a small doe foot applicator. It is very stiff, and effective in applying a tiny bit of primer to my eyelids.

The product is smooth and did not leave any kind of residue on my skin. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well the primer worked to keep my eyeshadow in place, even in the summer.

Would I repurchase? Yes, I thought this worked very well!

Monthly Favorites #68: October, 2016

Wow, somehow I hadn’t blogged in a month!  I guess things were pretty hectic around here.

Here are my favorites for October 2016!

Nars Orgasm blush (link goes to my review)

The weather has cooled down a little, so I am back to using powder blush.  This is a great color for my skin tone.

Urban Decay Naked 3 palette

Although this isn’t my favorite Naked palette, I seem to be using this a lot this past month.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

I bought this when I was in the US.  It is SUPER matte, and I like to mix it with other foundations to make them last longer.

What were your favorites last month?

Monthly Favorites #67: August, 2016

Wow, it’s been a hot summer so far.  As with every hot and humid Japanese summer, my favorites have all been about making my makeup last.  Here’s what I have been loving this month!

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

I received a sample of this from a friend. Even the sample has a doe foot applicator! It is a lot more liquidy than the UDPP, but it seems to be doing a good job at keeping my eyeshadow on.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation

I repurchased this on a recent trip to the US. This is really the best long-lasting foundation that I have tried.  Recently, I have been mixing it with other foundations.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche

This is a limited edition summer fragrance. It smells like coconut, but in a light way which is appropriate both for outdoors and for the office. It reminds me a lot of what I like about summer!

What have you been loving this summer?

Review: Nars Orgasm blush

After I bought the NARS Orgasm blush, I debated whether or not I should write a review.  Why write a review of a famous, well-loved product?

I have quite a few pinky-peachy blushes with shimmer which are considered drugstore dupes of the NARS Orgasm. So why did I buy this in the first place? Because I wanted to know why people still prefer the higher priced original, even though there are so many other products with a similar color and finish.

What it does: (from Sephora’s website)

NARS Blush offers a range of translucent, natural shades, each with a subtle pink for a natural-looking blush undertone to highlight the complexion. Designed to be worn alone or layered together for more depth, it provides a healthy glow that flatters any skintone.

Orgasm Blush gives cheeks a perfect pinky-peach flush and subtly highlights with accents of golden shimmer. The perennially pleasing, universally flattering shade is repeatedly a makeup artist and beauty editor favorite.

Price: $30

Availability: This and other NARS blushes are available on the NARS website, Sephora, and other high end department stores such as Bloomingdales and Nordstrom

Shade: Orgasm is a pinky peach color with a strong golden shimmer

What I thought:

If you’ve got a warm undertone like me, pinky-peach blushes are flattering.  The shimmer, however, is a matter of personal preference. I liked how the shimmer looked on me, but I felt it was too strong when I put on a lot of this blush.

The difference for me between this blush and the drugstore dupes was the application and lasting power. This blush was one of the least powdery blushes I own, and did not kick up much additional powder when I was applying it. Also, it lasted on my skin well over 8 hours, even though blush usually is one of the first thing that fades for me.

Would I repurchase? Yes, now I understand why it’s so well loved. I also am interested to buy other blushes from NARS as well.

Hope you enjoyed this review!
