Throwback: Favorites from September

Here is a look back at my favorites from September 2014 and 2015!  This month, my favorites seems to be a collection of my holy grails.  I guess I really like my summer products!

In September 2015, I liked:

MAC Blot Powder

I recently started using this again, after using up my previous setting powder. I like keeping it in my purse to touch up.

MAC Blot Powder

Daiso Eyebrow coat (link goes to my review)

This is a must have product in my collection. I apply it to my eyebrows to keep the color in place.  Several brands have a similar product in their line up, but you can’t beat the 100 yen price at Daiso!

Daiso Ever Bilena Eyebrow Coat

Daiso Eyeliner coat

Seriously, I can’t believe that I haven’t written a review of this product yet! I use this product daily to keep my eyeliner in place. It is especially amazing in my lower lash line!

Shirt Cool (link goes to my review)

I keep talking about this product, and it is seriously amazing!  I use it every day if I think I will sweat.

Gatsby Ice Deodorant Body Paper (link goes to my review)

Yet another one of my holy grails! This is the best body paper on the market – or at least, the one which cools me down the most!!

In September 2014, I liked:

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation   (link goes to my review)

I just used up this foundation. I really like the container, and the product works well on my skin most of the year!

Jordana Color Tint Blush in Coral Touch (link goes to my review)

I miss this product… I’m so disappointed that Jordana is no longer widely available!

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (link goes to my review)

I have been using sponges for the past year or so, but this is still my favorite face brush. It is so soft, it is synthetic, and it is affordable!

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Brazilian Tan

I really should dig up this lipstick! It is a great color, and I remember how I searched all over New York to find it.  Fortunately, one of my Twitter friends told me exactly which drugstore I should go to to find it!

Hope you enjoyed seeing my old favorites!

Empties from April – August 2017

It’s been such a strange summer here in Japan.  Everyone was expecting it to be a super hot summer, and while July was really hot, it rained for 22 days straight in August.  Still, I used a lot of summer products to deal with the humidity.  Here is a look back at my empties in the recent months!

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation (link goes to my review)

I really wish every company put their foundation in a container like this. It is a small plastic container with a squeeze tube. It’s super easy to carry around, I can dispense foundation easily, and I don’t need to worry about any spillage!

Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator in Bare Lights (link goes to my review)

I feel like this was one of the first liquid highlighting products at the drugstore. I really enjoyed how versatile it was!

Skinfood Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder (link goes to my review)

This is a silica powder with a peach fragrance.  It is a great powder, but buying silica powder in bulk will do the same thing. I used to be able to find silica powder online easily, but I can’t seem to find it anymore!

Milani Eyeshadow Primer (link goes to my review)

This is a great, great primer at a wonderful price!  It is a must have in my collection!

Beauty Make-up Sponge (set of 20)

I always enjoyed using the Beauty Blender, but it isn’t easy to buy in Japan. I have gone back to using disposable sponges!

Bath and Body Works Aloha Waterfall Orchid shower gel

This was the last of my Bath and Body Works collection! I hope I can get more when I visit the US.

Sephora Daily Brush Cleanser (link goes to my review)

I’d never used brush cleansers before, but I picked this up on a whim at Sephora. It cleans my brushes well and doesn’t leave a scent.

Rohto Skin Aqua Super Moisture Essence SPF 50+ PA++++

This is my go-to SPF for my body. I like that it absorbs well into my skin and doesn’t leave it sticky.

Nivea Sun Protect Plus UV Milky Essence SPF50+ PA++++

This is my other favorite SPF for my body. It is a bit thicker than the Rhoto one, and I like using it when I’m outdoors.

Nivea Sun Protect Water Gel SPF 50+ PA++++

This is my go-to SPF for my face. It’s light and absorbs well, but it contains alcohol.

Hope you enjoyed my empties!

Empties from November 2016 – March 2017

Here are some of my empties from the recent months!

Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural N9 (link goes to my review)

I received this as part of the Sephora birthday gift. I loved this color, and the texture also worked well with my lips.

I wish all lipsticks came in this size!

NO7 Dramatic Lift Mascara

I bought this mascara after reading many great reviews, but unfortunately it smudged on me!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl eyeliner

I liked this eyeliner pencil, and the color was a little bit lighter than what I usually use.

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base (link goes to my review)

I really liked this eyeshadow primer! It made my eyeshadow last very well!

Kao Sofina Prima Vista primer (link goes to my review)

This primer is really popular in Japan! It made my foundation last throughout the day, even though it didn’t keep my skin fully matte.

L’Oréal Infallible Makeup Extender Setting Spray

I’m so glad that drugstore brands are coming out with setting sprays!

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche

This is a limited edition perfume that Estee Lauder launches each summer.  I loved this so much that I bought a full size bottle!

Seabreeze Deo + Water Deodorant (link goes to my review)

This is my staple deodorant and I go through it quite frequently!

Lush Yuzu and Cocoa shower gel (link goes to my review)

This is the most recent Lush body wash that I bought.  It is an interesting scent, a mixture of citrus and chocolate.

Muji Jojoba oil

I purchased this oil last winter to combat my dry skin. It worked well, but I think I prefer a lighter oil

Hope you enjoyed to see my empties!

Monthly Favorites #72: February, 2017

February has been quite a busy month for me! Hopefully I can share the details soon.

On to my favorites!

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation (link goes to my review)

I posted about this recently on Instagram! I love how this foundation looks on me, but unfortunately it makes me quite greasy very quickly!

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation (link goes to my review)

I like to mix the MUFE foundation with this matte foundation from the drugstore.  By itself, this foundation looks too matte – almost dry on me.  It looks much better when I mix it with something dewy!

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray (link goes to my review)

I’ve been loving this sea salt spray! I love the price, I love the fine mist, and I think the scent is great too.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my favorites!

Review: Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

I loved the Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation (which I recently used up… finally!), so when I was excited to hear about the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation.  There were so many great reviews online.  Let’s see how it worked for me!

What it does: (from the Sephora website)

Developed specifically for the film and TV industry’s most advanced technology, Ultra HD Liquid Foundation creates a naturally flawless complexion—in and out of the spotlight. Invisible under the latest, super-focused 4k lens, this revolutionary foundation features uniquely-coated pigments that provide medium to buildable coverage with an even lighter weight, second-skin texture that looks just like skin. This formula leaves your complexion with the same flawless results that you’d achieve with a flat foundation brush in a tap and stretch motion. It contains hyaluronic spheres to ensure comfortable wear on all normal, dry and combination skin types, and it lasts all day, leaving a natural-looking finish. Now available in an expanded range of 40 shades to match all skintones, Ultra HD is the perfect everyday foundation for a flawless complexion—and it doesn’t require touch ups.

Price: $43 for 1.01 oz. For comparison, the MUFE Mat Velvet+ is $39 for the same amount of product.

Availability:  Sephora.com says this is an exclusive product.

What I thought:

Let’s compare this to the claims, shall we?

  • creates a naturally flawless complexion: Yes, I loved how it looked on my skin! It disappeared into my skin and looked great.
  •  medium to buildable coverageIt did a good job at making my skin look even, but I wouldn’t say it covered my imperfections
  • available in an expanded range of 40 shades: Yes, this is great!
  • doesn’t require touch ups: This is where I don’t agree. Although this product says it works for all skin types, and my skin is not oily in the winter, this product looked shiny on me within a few hours. It also rubbed off very quickly.

Maybe I need to set it with more powder? However, since I really do like how it looks, I have been mixing this with my matte foundations for a natural look.

Would I repurchase? Probably not.  Unfortunately, this was a let down for me!

Hope you enjoyed this review!
