Favorites from 2016

Don’t you love seeing what people liked for the entire year?  Here are my favorite products from 2016.

If you are interested in seeing my past favorites, I have done an annual roundup for 201520142013201220112010, and 2009.

All links go to my reviews.

Best foundation:  Cover FX Custom Color Drops

This summer, I spent a lot of time diving. Because of this, many of my foundations were too light for me! Since I didn’t want to purchase a new foundation, I bought the Cover FX Custom Color Drops in  N70.  This is the shade “for medium to deeply tanned skin with neutral undertones”, and it worked out great to adjust my foundations.

Best face primer: Kao Sephora Prima Vista primer

It’s been a long time since a Japanese product excited me this much! This primer has been winning a lot of Japanese beauty awards since it was launched. I finally bit the bullet to purchase it, and it definitely makes my foundation stay on longer in the summer.

Best eyeshadow: Morphe 12S Soul of Summer eyeshadow palette

Ahh I wish I had been able to buy more Morphe stuff! This is a great eyeshadow palette with lots of every day neutral colors.  Even the blue-gray color in the right hand side works great on my eyes.

Best eyeshadow primer: Milani eyeshadow primer

I love how it keeps my eyeshadow from creasing.  I love the price, and I love that it is in a squeeze tube.  Definitely, this is the best eyeshadow primer at the drugstore!

Best makeup remover: MKB Aqua Cleansing oil

Surprisingly, this is a store brand product from Matsumoto Kiyoshi, a major Japanese drugstore chain. It is one of the cheapest cleaning oils available, and yet it takes off all of my eye makeup easily.

Best new skin care product: Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel

I bought this on a suggestion from a fellow blogger. This is such a great chemical peel and definitely worth the price tag.  My skin feels smoother and looks better every time I use it.

Best fragrance: Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne

Ah, if only Jo Malone perfumes were more affordable… This is such a wonderful scent which is feminine without being sweet or fruity.

Best hair product: Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

Another year, another salt spray. Salt sprays are my go to styling product in the summer months. This year, I finally found a product from the drugstore which works! I also love how this smells.

What were your favorite products of 2016?

Review: Jo Malone London Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne

This is a review of the Jo Malone London Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne.  I received a sample of this from a friend.  Let’s cut to the good part – I LOVE THIS.
Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt

What it does: (from the Saks Fifth Avenue website)
Escape the everyday along the windswept shore. Waves breaking white, the air fresh with sea salt and spray. Alive with the mineral scent of the rugged cliffs. Mingling with the woody earthiness of sage. Lively, spirited and totally joyful.
Price: $65 for 1 oz

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt

Scent: This is really hard for me to describe.  It is woody and green. It is not your typical beach-y fragrance, which tends to be sweet and scented with coconut, but rather, it reminds me of walking along the grass by the ocean in a cold climate.

Availability: Jo Malone colognes can be found at Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, and other department stores

What I thought:

It has been a long time since I found a scent that I liked so much!  It is appropriate for my work environment, and I think it would be appreciated by a wide range of people.  It is feminine without being floral or cloyingly sweet.  If only it were a little more affordable!

Would I repurchase?  Yes… on my birthday, maybe?

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Monthly Favorites #61: January, 2016

Happy 2016 everyone! Thank you for continuing to read and support my blog!

I am so behind on blogging.  It is the middle of January, and I haven’t blogged since… December?  I have a lot of half written blog posts, so I’ll work on getting those done!

On to my favorites for last month!

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne

A good friend gave me a sample of this and I LOVE it.  It is so different from anything I’ve ever smelled before, and it fits me so well.  Too bad Jo Malone is crazy expensive!

Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray

My love for salt sprays continues.  This is super easy to spray into my hair, and I love how it smells.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I’m really enjoying using this sponge. The flat side makes it easier to blend out than the Beauty Blender.

Catrice Longlasting Eye Pencil Waterproof

I picked up this eyeliner when I was in Spain. It is the perfect dark brown, and it is also firm enough for a thin line.

Monthly Favorites #60: December, 2015

This year has been a year of heavy domestic travel for me.  Some of it has been for work and some of it has been for vacation.  I have been on the Shinkansen (bullet train) at least 2 times each month, and I have also been on a domestic flight almost every 3 months.  I’m a little more used to international travel, so traveling a lot in Japan is new for me!

On to my favorites!

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet+ Foundation (link goes to my review)

The weather suddenly turned colder this past month, and with it, my skin turned drier. Although this foundation is a matte foundation, I found that it did not make my skin look patchy or dry.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (link goes to my review)

This sponge works really well with the MUFE foundation, making it look super natural. The only downside is that it does absorb foundation.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Skin Brightening Daily Scrub

This is a great, affordable daily cleanser that also exfoliates.  aveeno Skin Brightening Daily Scrub

Jo Malone London Wood Sage and Sea Salt Cologne

This is such a unique scent, and I’m really thinking about buying a full sized bottle!
