Empties from September – October 2016

I realize it is no longer October… but I wrote a draft post 2 months ago, and I don’t feel like updating it with all the empties from November!

Here is a look at the products I used up in the past 2 months.

Jordana 12 Hour Made To Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil

I’ve repurchased this pencil several times, so I’m surprised that I never wrote a review for it. It is very affordable and very creamy. I like my eyeliner to be dark brown rather than black, since black just seems to make my eyes look very harsh.

Maybelline lipstick

I think I bought this 4 years ago… I continued to use it since it didn’t smell off, but the shade name has rubbed off, so I have no idea what this product is called!

img_8107

Skindinavia The Makeup Finishing Spray (link goes to my review)

Apparently this is the same product as the Urban Decay setting spray. I like that Skindinavia ships abroad!  I recommend that you wait for a sale – there are always sale codes around so it doesn’t make sense to pay full price.

MKB cleansing oil

This is an off brand product from Matsumoto Kiyoshi, a Japanese drugstore. I originally picked this up because it was significantly cheaper than brand name cleansing oils. Surprisingly, I like this much better than other oils, and I have repurchased this several times.

Biore Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub (link goes to my review)

I bought this product when I went to New York this spring because there were advertisements EVERYWHERE.  I liked it… but I didn’t like that it did not rinse off cleanly.

img_8401

Seabreeze Deo + Water deodorant (link goes to my review)

I have repurchased this so many times. I refill a small spray bottle with this product because the original packaging is just not easy to use.

Gatsby Ice Deodorant Body Paper Ice Citrus (link goes to my review)

This is another must have for the summer. This is the strongest body wipe that I’ve found, and the cooling sensation lasts for some time.

img_8403

Bath and Body Works body lotion in Honolulu Sun

This was not a memorable body lotion for me. In the winter, I try not to use fragranced body lotions as the perfume irritates my skin.

img_8134

Rohto Z! eye drops

These were the STRONGEST eye drops on the market… until Rohto came out with an even stronger version.

I’m so behind on my blog posts!

Empties from August 2016

It’s pretty rare that I do an empties post two months in a row. It seems I’ve been using up a lot of the stuff in my stash!

MAC Blot Powder

Wow, I’m surprised that I don’t have a review of this product, especially considering how many times I have repurchased this! I’ll buy a new one next time I go to the US.

IMG_8056

MAC Studio Fix Concealer

Amazing how I used it all up! This is a thick concealer, and I found that it works best when pressed into the skin using a Beauty Blender.

IMG_8058

Shu Uemura Skin Primer Makeup Remover

I really, really hated this makeup remover. It stung my eyes, was greasy and did not rinse clean, and had a strong scent.

IMG_8085

Bath and Body Works Stress Relief Eucalyptus Tea Shower Gel

This was a new Bath and Body Works scent that I tried.  It was a pleasant scent.

IMG_8087

Bath and Body Works French Lavender and Honey Shower Gel (link goes to my review)

This is one of the Bath and Body Works products that I picked up in the US. If you like sweet, floral scents, this might be good for you.

IMG_8053

Bath and Body Works A Thousand Wishes shower gel (link goes to my review)

This was significantly sweeter than what I usually purchase, but it was a good change.

IMG_8069

Gatsby Ice Deodorant Body Paper (link goes to my review)

This is one of my go-to products for the summer. This is a travel sized packet that I bring with me on vacation.

IMG_8067

Hugo perfume

This is a men’s perfume that I tried out. It was an interesting scent for me to wear.

IMG_8081

Shirt Cool (link goes to my review)

Another go-to product for the summer. This is a menthol spray that is sprayed on the clothes.

IMG_8091

L’Occitane Hand Cream (link goes to my review)

This is a famous hand cream, and I like using it more in the summer than the winter.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my empties!

Throwback Thursday: Favorites from August

Here are my favorites from August 2014 and 2015. Apparently I did not do a favorites post in August 2013.

In August 2014, I liked:

Martha Tilaar Caring Colours Everlast BB cream (link goes to my review)

This was a really great BB cream from a local Indonesian brand. It is very affordable, had good coverage for a BB cream, and worked well in the hot/humid Jakarta environment.

Martha Tilaar Caring Colours Everlast BB Cream

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer Treatment (link goes to my review)

I picked this up when I went to the US solely because of all of the hype online. I usually don’t like products with applicators that cannot be cleaned, but this product worked so well that I was willing to overlook it!  I never repurchased this because I have a lot of concealers, but I still think this is one of the better under eye concealers that I have ever used.

Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Elusive (link goes to my review)

I liked the color, but I ultimately decided that matte lips do not work for me!

Jordana Color Tint Blush Stick in Blushed (link goes to my review)

Ahh… another product that was constantly in my favorites until I used it up! Unfortunately I couldn’t find Jordana cheek products when I last went to the US. If you want to try them out, they are available on the Jordana website.

In August 2015, I liked:

Shirt Cool (link goes to my review)

This is still a must have product for every summer. Spray it on your clothes, and the minty cooling sensation will last for about 30 minutes. I used up this bottle early this summer and have since repurchased a new one.

Daiso Ever Bilena eyebrow coat (link goes to my review)

I have a feeling that many Japanese girls use this, or some product similar to this… if they grew up in the “thin eyebrow” phase of the 90s. This product is meant to be brushed on to your eyebrows (or the areas on your skin that you drew on) to ensure they do not “disappear”

Thick eyebrows have been the norm these past few years, but it looks like thin eyebrows may be coming back soon.

Daiso Ever Bilena Eyebrow Coat

Gatsby Body Wipes (link goes to my review)

Yet another must have product for the summer. This is the best body wipe on the market in terms of how cooling it is! I have a packet at home and a packet at work.

Sparkly Soul Headbands

I use these headbands when I run to keep the hair out of my face. They really do not slip!

Hope you enjoyed a look back at my past favorites!

Products I’ve Repurchased – Skin, Hair, and Body

The market is flooded with new products all the time, but which products have stood the test of time? I’m always interested to see what products people have repurchased, because those are the real favorites.   Surprisingly, the last time I did a blog post on items I repurchased was way back in 2011!

In this post, I will share the skin care and hair products which I have repurchased.

If you are interested to see what I repurchased in 2011, here are links to the old posts:

Skin products

Face wash net (link goes to my review)

I always, always use a face wash net when washing my face. It creates a rich, creamy lather. These are available at Daiso and other 100 yen stores, and I’ve repurchased them countless times.

Cotton Labo Mekuru Cotton Large Size (link goes to my review)

This cotton sheet is made up of 5 thin layers, so that they can be split to make lotion masks. I like this brand so much that I bought tons of backups when I lived abroad.

MKB Cleansing Oil

This is a store brand cleansing oil from Matsumoto Kiyoshi (a drugstore chain in Japan), and it is surprisingly good. It rinses clean, doesn’t have a strong scent, and dissolves makeup well.

Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun hyaluronic acid essence (link goes to my review)

This is a well-loved essence which I have repurchased countless times. It moisturizes well and is very affordable!

Lush Brazen Honey Fresh Face Mask (link goes to my review)

This is still my favorite mask from Lush, which I use to pamper my skin. Fresh Face Masks go bad pretty quickly, so I suggest freezing them if you can’t use them up.

Hair products

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray (link goes to my review)

Ever since I cut my hair, I have been loving salt sprays to add texture. The Bumble and Bumble one is still my favorite.

Lush Sea Spray  (link goes to my review)

Since I can’t buy the Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray in Japan, I like to buy the Lush Sea Spray.

IMG_6725

Body products

Nivea Sun Protect Water Gel

This has been my go-to sunscreen, both for my body and for my face. I like that it dries down quickly and doesn’t leave a residue on my skin.

IMG_7455

Seabreeze Deo+Water deodorant (link goes to my review)

This has been my go-to deodorant for a very, very long time. It is hard to find antiperspirants in Japan, so I stick with deodorants.

IMG_1705_final

Shirt Cool (link goes to my review)

A favorites post in the summer time always includes a mention about Shirt Cool. This is a menthol spray that you apply to your clothes, and it keeps you feeling cool for about 30 minutes.  It is a lifesaver in the hot, humid summers!

shirt cool

Gatsby Ice Deodorant Body Paper Ice Citrus (link goes to my review)

I go through about a pack and a half every summer. Although there are several brands which sell cooling wipes, I found that the Gatsby Ice Deodorant one has the strongest cooling sensation. I also usually have a smaller package to keep in my purse.

Gatsby body paper

Bath and Body Works Twilight Woods (link goes to my review)

I like Bath and Body Works products a lot, and I tend to buy a few every time I’m in the US. With so many new scents coming out all the time, there are very few that I have repurchased.  The Twilight Woods scent is one of the few that I have bought multiple times.

IMG_4638_final

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Energy Orange Ginger (link goes to my review)

This is the other Bath and Body Works scent that I have repurchased. It is fresh and  energizing!

IMG_3728_final

Wow, I’m surprised to see that there are some products that I’ve never reviewed, even though I’ve bought them multiple times.  Looks like I have some reviews to write!

5 Japanese beauty care products that I recommend

Although I live in Japan, a lot of the products I review on my blog are from the US. This is probably because I get so excited every time I go abroad that I haul a lot. This is true not only for my trips to the US, but I also have reviews on products from Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines, the UK, and other countries I have visited.

But on a daily basis, I use a lot of Japanese beauty products. I guess somehow they are so commonplace to me that I forget to blog about them!   This is a round up of 5 Japanese beauty products that I love and would recommend to anyone coming to Japan. I tried to pick up products which are not widely known in the beauty blogger community – for example, I have excluded Canmake cream blushers and other products which were very hyped for a while.

The idea for this blog post comes from The Sunday Girl, who has a list of prompts for beauty blogging!

Suisai Beauty Clear Powder A (link goes to my review)

This is a powdered facial cleanser with chemical exfoliant. It really worked to make my skin smooth!  These teeny capsules are also super cute.

Suisai Beauty Clear Powder A

Shiseido TISS Deep Off cleansing oil (link goes to my review)

This is my all-time favorite makeup remover. It also does a great job at removing blackheads and unclogging my pores. I loved this product so much that I brought it with me to China!

Shiseido TISS

Pure Smile Face Masks (link goes to my review)

Okay, you don’t have to buy the one in snake venom, like I did! This product line has so many variations, and they are quite affordable.

Gatsby Ice Deodorant Body Paper (link goes to my review)

These body wipes feel incredible after sweating! I use them after I run, even after I have showered, because the menthol in them helps my body temperature go down. I keep a pack of them at work over the summer because I’m usually hot and sweaty by the time I arrive!

Here is a bonus 6th product, which is not really a beauty product but worth mentioning anyway:

Shirt Cool spray (link goes to my review)

This is a must have for me during the summer. Spray some on your shirt and it will help you stay cool for about 30 minutes!  The menthol is intense, so make sure you don’t accidentally spray your body, because it’s painful! Ask me how I know…

Hope you enjoyed my top 5 Japanese beauty products! What are your local favorites? I’d love to know!
