Review: Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup

This is a review of the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup.

This is an iconic foundation, very well known for its long wear properties. I’m so surprised that I haven’t done a review on it yet, considering this is one of the few foundations that I have ever repurchased!

I have heard that this is a very thick, cakey looking foundation. I like to apply it with a wet makeup sponge, such as a Beauty Blender or a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion sponge.  They thin out the coverage to make it look less cakey, while still retaining the coverage.

One watch out for this product is that the color names are not the same in certain parts of the world. I have this in 2W1 Dawn, which looks like is unavailable in Japan. Several Japanese bloggers have noted that the color of the product sold in Japan and that of an imported product are not the same, even for the same shade name.

I also don’t like that this product is a high end foundation, yet does not come with a pump. Fortunately, I was able to find a pump at Daiso (a Japanese dollar store) which fit perfectly.

What it does: (from Estee Lauder’s website)

Long-wearing makeup with 15-hour staying power. Looks flawless and natural. Lasts through heat, humidity, non-stop activity.  Won’t change color, smudge or come off on clothes. Feels lightweight and comfortable. For a look that lasts all day, without touchups.

Price: $39.50 for 1 oz. This product is 6000 JPY (about $60) in Japan. No wonder I buy it in the US!

Availability: This product can be found at department stores, Sephora, and at Estee Lauder’s website. This is pretty easy to find due to its popularity.

Shade range: This product is available in 35 shades. Only 6 are available in Japan.

What I thought:

This is one of the few foundations that last on me in the summer, due to the heat and humidity. My face does get oily in the summer, and I also sweat a lot.  Of all of the long wear foundations that I have tried, this is one of the best ones.  However, it is definitely not transfer proof for me in the summer, nor does it last 15 hours.

Would I repurchase?  Yes, I stock up when I’m in the US!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Products I’ve repurchased – Makeup

Since I recently did a blog post on skin care products that I have repurchased, I decided to do a similar product for makeup and tools as well.  I rarely repurchase makeup products because there are always new products and new colors on the market. Many times, the product I bought has already been discontinued!

If you are interested to see what I repurchased in 2011, here are links to the old posts:

Makeup that I have repurchased:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup

My go-to makeup in the summer! Many people say that this is a thick foundation. I like using it with a Beauty Blender to give a natural looking finish.

Kate Lash Maximizer

This is an eyelash primer from the Japanese drugstore brand Kate. It is affordable and works well to make my eyelashes thicker and longer.

Bibo eyebrow pencil

It is really hard to find light eyebrow pencils in Japan. Bibo is one of the few brands which sell light brown eyebrow pencils, so I have repurchased this product several times.

Daiso eyeliner coat

This is a top coat for eyeliner to prevent it from melting off. It looks like liquid eyeliner, and works well especially for my lower lash line.

Jordana 12 Hour Made To Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil

I like the Espresso Last color, which is a dark brown. The pencil is pigmented and quite soft.

Daiso Ever Bilena Eyebrow Coat (link goes to my review)

This is a top coat for the eyebrows, and is especially useful if you draw eyebrows with pencil.

Urban Decay Primer Potion (link goes to my review)

The famed eyeshadow primer! I still think this is the best eyeshadow primer that I have used so far.

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation

I especially like the one for Oily/Combination skin. However, the last time I was in the US, this cost $13-14!  Wow, drugstore stuff is getting very expensive.

Tools that I have repurchased:

ELF Small Stipple Brush (link goes to my review)

I like using this to blend cream blushes. It is inexpensive and works well.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (link goes to my review)

I am still torn whether I like the original Beauty Blender or this one better. I definitely like the price of the Real Techniques sponge better!

Monthly Favorites #67: August, 2016

Wow, it’s been a hot summer so far.  As with every hot and humid Japanese summer, my favorites have all been about making my makeup last.  Here’s what I have been loving this month!

NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base

I received a sample of this from a friend. Even the sample has a doe foot applicator! It is a lot more liquidy than the UDPP, but it seems to be doing a good job at keeping my eyeshadow on.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Foundation

I repurchased this on a recent trip to the US. This is really the best long-lasting foundation that I have tried.  Recently, I have been mixing it with other foundations.

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche

This is a limited edition summer fragrance. It smells like coconut, but in a light way which is appropriate both for outdoors and for the office. It reminds me a lot of what I like about summer!

What have you been loving this summer?

Throwback Thursday: Favorites from May

This month, I am revisiting my favorites from May 2013 and 2014.

In May 2014, I liked:

Milani Shadow Eyez eyeshadow pencils

These were my favorites for a VERY long time, until I used them up completely.  I still recommend them – they are the only cream eyeshadow that does not crease on my oily eyelids.

Milani Shadow Eyez
L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Amber Rush

The Infallible eyeshadows are a favorite of many beauty bloggers, and I loved Amber Rush so much that I have a dedicated review! What a great color for a one shadow look.

Jordana Color Tint Blush Sticks

I also loved these for a very, very long time.  I was looking forward to trying out new Jordana products when I was in New York. However, they have all but disappeared from the drugstores! I found a few places that stock the lip colors and eyeliners, but no blushes to be found anywhere!

Revlon Photoready Skinlights face illuminators in Bare Light and Peach Light

I still own these, and I still think they are beautiful. However, recently I prefer cream or powder highlighters.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Brazilian Tan
I broke this out again recently, and it reminds me that brownish pink lipsticks actually do look good on me!Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Brazilian Tan
In May 2013, I liked:

Lush Dirty Shower Gel

This is a cult favorite at Lush, but to be honest, I don’t think it is very memorable.  Many people like the scent, and there is even a Lush Dirty perfume!

Lush Dirty Shower Gel
Bioderma cleanser

I really, really do not get the hype about this product.  I felt that it did not remove my makeup very well.   I prefer an oil-based cleanser, but if you are looking for something which you do not need to rinse off, I recommend the Neutrogena wipes.
Bioderma Sebium H2O Non-Rinse cleanser

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye

This is still one of my favorite eye creams.  It hydrates my eye area without becoming sticky, so I was even able to use it when I lived in Indonesia.

It looks like May was a mix of hits and misses. If you know of a place near you which sells Jordana cosmetics, please let me know!

Throwback Thursday: Favorites from April

A little late, but better than never! Here are my favorites from April 2013 and 2014.

All links go to my reviews.

In April 2014, I liked:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup

I think I go back to this foundation every year when the weather gets warm.  Right now, I am wearing the MUFE Mat Velvet+, but I think I need to get out this foundation soon.

IMG_6715

Barry M Dazzle Dusts

I still think these are great.  They are so affordable, and come in many different colors!

In April 2013, I liked:

Lush Cynthia Sylvia Stout Beer Shampoo

This was a limited edition product which I didn’t get to repurchase. I thought that the beer aspect was just a marketing ploy, but the shampoo turned out to be much better than I expected! I hope they rerelease this some time!

Maybelline the Colossal Volum Express Mascara

This is one of the few mascaras that I have ever repurchased.  The brush is massive, and takes some getting used to.  However,  I liked how it made my eyelashes look full without sticking together, and it did NOT smudge under my eyes!

P1000802_final

MAC Blot Powder

This is a product which I regularly repurchase when I am in the US.  It does a great job at taking away the shine on my face without looking cakey. I have yet to find a good alternative at the drugstore!
