Monthly Favorites #70: December, 2016

I am so behind on my blog posts! Here is a look back at my favorites from December.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation

This is an extremely liquidy foundation. I like to use this mixed with my more matte foundations for a natural look over the winter months.

NYX Dark Circle Concealer

This is eye opening for me. It doesn’t seem to have much coverage, yet my dark circles are less visible.

elf eye crease brush

I use this to apply the NYX concealer, since it is domed shaped and very small.

What have you been enjoying this past month?

Products I’ve repurchased – Makeup

Since I recently did a blog post on skin care products that I have repurchased, I decided to do a similar product for makeup and tools as well.  I rarely repurchase makeup products because there are always new products and new colors on the market. Many times, the product I bought has already been discontinued!

If you are interested to see what I repurchased in 2011, here are links to the old posts:

Makeup that I have repurchased:

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup

My go-to makeup in the summer! Many people say that this is a thick foundation. I like using it with a Beauty Blender to give a natural looking finish.

Kate Lash Maximizer

This is an eyelash primer from the Japanese drugstore brand Kate. It is affordable and works well to make my eyelashes thicker and longer.

Bibo eyebrow pencil

It is really hard to find light eyebrow pencils in Japan. Bibo is one of the few brands which sell light brown eyebrow pencils, so I have repurchased this product several times.

Daiso eyeliner coat

This is a top coat for eyeliner to prevent it from melting off. It looks like liquid eyeliner, and works well especially for my lower lash line.

Jordana 12 Hour Made To Last Liquid Eyeliner Pencil

I like the Espresso Last color, which is a dark brown. The pencil is pigmented and quite soft.

Daiso Ever Bilena Eyebrow Coat (link goes to my review)

This is a top coat for the eyebrows, and is especially useful if you draw eyebrows with pencil.

Daiso Ever Bilena Eyebrow Coat

Urban Decay Primer Potion (link goes to my review)

The famed eyeshadow primer! I still think this is the best eyeshadow primer that I have used so far.

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation

I especially like the one for Oily/Combination skin. However, the last time I was in the US, this cost $13-14!  Wow, drugstore stuff is getting very expensive.

Tools that I have repurchased:

ELF Small Stipple Brush (link goes to my review)

I like using this to blend cream blushes. It is inexpensive and works well.

Elf small stipple brush

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (link goes to my review)

I am still torn whether I like the original Beauty Blender or this one better. I definitely like the price of the Real Techniques sponge better!

Hope you enjoyed seeing what I have repurchased?

Favorites from 2015

I’m a little late to the game, but here are my favorite products from 2015!

If you are interested in seeing my past favorites, I have done an annual roundup for 201420132012,2011, 2010, and 2009.

All links go to my reviews.

Best foundation: L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup

I picked this up because of all the great reviews online. I love how the finish looks very natural!

L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup
I really do not like the packaging, though, so I put it in an airless pump bottle that I got at Daiso (a Japanese dollar store).  This is another great find and I have been putting all of my foundations into these pump bottles.

Best high end mascara: Tarte Lights Camera Action mascara
Wow, I never thought I would find a high end mascara that I thought was worth the price. This mascara made it look like I had more eyelashes than I actually did.

Tarte Lights Camera Lashes

Best drugstore mascara: Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal mascara

This mascara delivered on all the things I need – fuller lashes, good separation, and no transferring under my eyes. I even tested this during the summer, and it lasted throughout the humidity!

Maybelline Volum' Express Pumped Up! Colossal mascara

Best eyeshadow: Barry M Dazzle Dust in Rose Gold

I found out this past year that I look good in rose gold! I loved this eyeshadow and I went through an entire pan!

Best makeup product that I never thought of: Daiso Eyeliner coat

This is a liquid that you put on top of your eyeliner to prevent it from transferring. It has been life changing for me! Previously, I could never wear eyeliner on my lower lash line without having it transfer or disappear within a few hours. With this product, my eyeliner lasts and lasts.  I have never seen a similar product from any other brand!

Best eyeshadow primer: Milani eyeshadow primer

This is definitely the best eyeshadow primer out there. Most other eyeshadow primers are too oily for my lids, but this one makes my eyeshadow last all day. I also love that it is in a squeeze tube, and that it is so affordable.

Best high end lipstick: Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Natural N9

This product was from the 2014 Sephora birthday gift, and I found that it really worked great for my lips. The color gave my lips a natural flush, and unlike most lipsticks, it did not make my lips peel.

Best drugstore lipstick: Revlon Lip Butter in Pink Truffle

This lipstick gives my lips a slight tint – which is just the thing I wanted when I did a more dramatic eye look.

Best Perfume: Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche

This is a limited edition fragrance that comes out every summer. I finally got my hands on it, thanks to a good friend. The scent reminds me of vacations in the tropics.

Best new hair tool: Sparkly Soul Headbands

2015 was the year when I started running outside.  A good friend suggested these headbands when I was looking for something to keep my hair out of my face. They really do not move!

Favorite hair product: Lush Sea Spray

After cutting my hair shorter at the end of 2014, I have been enjoying salt sprays for my hair to give it a carefree, tousled look. Salt sprays are a little difficult to find in Japan, but I have had good luck with this one from Lush.

Favorite new makeup tool (tie):

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I bought this product solely for the purpose of reviewing it – and I fully intended to say that the original Beauty Blender was much better. However, I found that I am really loving this! The flat surface makes blending foundation easier than with a round surface, and the softness is the same as the original Beauty Blender.  What a steal at $10!

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Elf Small Stipple Brush

I bought this brush because it was so liked on Youtube, and I found that it works great for cream blushes. Unfortunately, I quickly destroyed my first brush, so thankfully a friend helped me to buy a new one!

Real Techniques Blush Brush

In general, I have better luck with eye brushes than with face brushes. For some reason, it is hard for me to find a blush brush that works for me, in terms of color placement, blending, and how it feels on my skin. A friend recommended me this brush, and I really love it!

Real Techniques Blush Brush

Favorite new body product: Lush Love Soap

I bought this to support same sex marriage, just after the landmark decision in the US. The soap turned out to be fabulous – a great scent and great lather. I wish it were permanent!

Hope you enjoyed my 2015 favorites!

Favorites from 2015 first half

This is a list of my favorite products for the first half of 2015. Can you believe that 2015 is half over already!? I decided to do a first half favorites, because when I do my favorites for the entire year,  sometimes I have forgotten what I loved in January!

Favorite makeup

Milani primer (link goes to my review)

This is the best eyeshadow primer I have ever used. It works better for me than UDPP, probably because I have pretty oily eyelids.  I definitely need to buy a new tube next time I’m in the US!

Barry M Dazzle Dust in Rose Gold (picture from my instagram)

I have used this color so much that I have hit pan.  I started using this eyeshadow in the beginning of the year, and it is still my go to shade!  The pan is now so big that I couldn’t get an eyeshadow brush in there, so I mixed in some alcohol and repressed it.

L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup

This is my current favorite foundation. What I love about this foundation is that it still looks good after  several hours on my face, and that it fades gradually without settling into my pores.  But I don’t like the pump-less bottle, so I put it in my next favorite, which is…

L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup

Airless pump bottle (available at Daiso and other 100 yen stores)

I don’t know why it took me so long to think of this, but now I put all of my foundations that don’t come with pumps in these airless pump bottles. I love how easy it is to pump out the correct amount of foundation, and I love that I can use every last drop!

Maybelline Volum’ Express Pumped Up! Colossal mascara (link goes to my review)

This is a mascara that a friend gave to me, and I definitely love it! It gives me volume without transferring under my eyes!!!

Maybelline Volum' Express Pumped Up! Colossal mascara

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded (link goes to my review)

I like using this not as a cream eyeshadow, but as a cheek highlight. It works great applied with a stippling brush.

Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR Cream Gel Shadow

Favorite Hair Products

Lush Sea Salt Spray (link goes to my review)

Every since I cut my hair last winter, I have been loving salt sprays to give my hair a carefree texture. Now that the summer is here, I am loving it even more!  The tousled look is definitely for me.

Favorite tools

Elf small stipple brush (link goes to my review)

I bought this after seeing many Youtubers rave about this brush, and I really love it for applying my cheek highlight. Unfortunately, the hairs on my brush fell out.  A very kind blogger friend sent me a  new one!!!

Elf small stipple brush

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (link goes to my review)

This is my favorite foundation brush. It just makes my face look better! Unfortunately, the rubber on the handle is now disintegrating, which seems to be a common problem with this brush.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

Real Techniques Blush Brush (link goes to my review)

I don’t use this brush every day because I almost exclusively using cream blushes since the weather has turned warmer, but this is definitely my favorite blush brush…maybe ever?  The size is just right for my cheeks, the egg shape applies color most intensely at the tip while blending the color out, and the hairs on this brush are SOFT. This is definitely a great brush, and it is so affordable!

Real Techniques Blush Brush

Real Techniques Setting Brush

This is the best brush for setting my undereye concealer. It applies a light layer of powder, and it is quite soft as well. I also like applying powder to my eyelids before applying primer, because my eyelids tend to get very oily in the summer.

Favorite new tip

Putting foundation in teeny soy sauce tubes for traveling

I am probably not the only person in the world who HATES having to bring a huge bottle of foundation with me when I travel. It’s big, it’s heavy, and it may leak.

This is why I decided to put them in these little tubes. These tubes are to put soy sauce in for bentos, so they are pretty good at not leaking. They can be bought at any 100 yen store in packs.  The smallest tubes lasted me more than a week, but if you need a bigger container, bigger tubes for condiments are also available at 100 yen stores.

Monthly Favorites #54: June, 2015

Here are my favorite products from this past month. As the weather has been getting dramatically warmer recently, I switched to many of my summer products – more cream blushers and eyeshadows!

L’Oreal Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion 50+ (link goes to my review)

I picked up this BB cream only because I have never tried one from the US. This is a very thin formula, more of a lotion than a cream, and gives very little coverage. However, somehow it makes my skin look good, and SPF50 is definitely a plus!

L'Oreal Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion 50+

Jordana Color Tint Blush Sticks (link goes to my review)

Warmer weather = cream blushers! This Jordana cream blush that I bought a year ago is still going strong. The price is also amazing!

Jordana Cosmetics Color Tint Blush Sticks

Elf small stipple brush (link goes to my review)

This year, I have been using this brush for my cream blushes. It is easy to use, blends out my blush, and is only $3!

Milani Shadow Eyez Eyeshadow pencils (link goes to my review)

This pencils continue to make an appearance in my makeup routine when I get a little busy. These pencils crease the least of any that I have tried!
