Throwback Thursday: Favorites from May

This month, I am revisiting my favorites from May 2013 and 2014.

In May 2014, I liked:

Milani Shadow Eyez eyeshadow pencils

These were my favorites for a VERY long time, until I used them up completely.  I still recommend them – they are the only cream eyeshadow that does not crease on my oily eyelids.

L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Amber Rush

The Infallible eyeshadows are a favorite of many beauty bloggers, and I loved Amber Rush so much that I have a dedicated review! What a great color for a one shadow look.

Jordana Color Tint Blush Sticks

I also loved these for a very, very long time.  I was looking forward to trying out new Jordana products when I was in New York. However, they have all but disappeared from the drugstores! I found a few places that stock the lip colors and eyeliners, but no blushes to be found anywhere!

Revlon Photoready Skinlights face illuminators in Bare Light and Peach Light

I still own these, and I still think they are beautiful. However, recently I prefer cream or powder highlighters.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Brazilian Tan
I broke this out again recently, and it reminds me that brownish pink lipsticks actually do look good on me!Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Brazilian Tan
In May 2013, I liked:

Lush Dirty Shower Gel

This is a cult favorite at Lush, but to be honest, I don’t think it is very memorable.  Many people like the scent, and there is even a Lush Dirty perfume!

Lush Dirty Shower Gel
Bioderma cleanser

I really, really do not get the hype about this product.  I felt that it did not remove my makeup very well.   I prefer an oil-based cleanser, but if you are looking for something which you do not need to rinse off, I recommend the Neutrogena wipes.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye

This is still one of my favorite eye creams.  It hydrates my eye area without becoming sticky, so I was even able to use it when I lived in Indonesia.

It looks like May was a mix of hits and misses. If you know of a place near you which sells Jordana cosmetics, please let me know!

Throwback Thursday: Favorites from May

This month, I revisited my monthly favorites from May 2012,  2013, and 2014.

In May 2014, I liked:

Milani Shadow Eyez eyeshadow pencils

I still like these a lot. In fact, I have just started using the Sand Dune one as a simple eye look for the weekends.

I definitely, definitely still enjoy this product and this color. If you are neutral eye look girl like me, this eyeshadow is a must have!

To repeat what I said in that post:  Great pigmentation, easy to blend, they stay on my skin pretty well, and they are only $3!

GO BUY THEM.

Revlon Photoready Skinlights face illuminators in Bare Light and Peach Light

I haven’t been wearing these lately, since I have a lot of highlighters. Recently I have been using the Maybelline Color Tattoo as a cream highlight.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Brazilian Tan

This was a limited edition color. I have found that this color looks better on me in the summer, so I haven’t been wearing it for the past few months. Having said that, I like the Super Lustrous formula very much, since it has high pigmentation but does not make my lips peel.

In May 2013, I liked:

Lush Dirty Shower Gel

Even in my review, I marked this as “will not repurchase”. I feel like I liked this because (1) it is a popular product, and (2) because I was living in Indonesia with limited access to beauty brands that I was familiar with.Bioderma Sebium H2O Non-Rinse cleanser

Yet another product which I feel I liked because it was so popular. I much prefer oil based cleansers.

Still in love. This is my go-to eye cream when the weather gets warmer. It absorbs quickly into the skin and leaves my eye area hydrated.  It is well worth the price!

In May 2012, I liked:

L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow in Iced Latte

Yet another L’Oreal Infallible eyeshadow. This color looks nearly white on my yellow-toned skin. I still enjoy using this for my inner corner highlight.

I hope you enjoyed this trip to my past favorites!

Up and Down #33: May, 2013

No sooner than I get an apartment, I have to move back to Japan.

Someone at work asked me whether this was a personal decision, or a business decision. It was 100% a business decision by the company that I work for. I really enjoy living and working in Indonesia, even though I don’t like leaving home at 5:30 AM every morning, or getting stuck in traffic jams for 2 hours whenever I want to go somewhere.

But… oh well, I guess. I realize that since I moved to Jakarta, my blog has been suffering a little. I don’t have time to travel much, while I previously did a mini travel series for some cities in Japan (link to blog posts for Kobe, Kyoto, Osaka, Fukuoka… a list is in the tags section of my blog). I also stopped cooking as much, when previously I did one cooking post per week. Hopefully, I can start posting more once I’m back in Japan.

On to my Ups and Downs!

Ups:

This is the last of the Lush products that I bought in Japan.  A review is coming up!

Bioderma cleanser (link goes to review)
I gave this a “maybe” in my review, but I’m growing to like it a lot. It removes my current mascara (it didn’t remove the mascara I wore in my original review), and it is really easy when I come home tired.

I am seriously considering purchasing a full size of this eye cream! I love that it absorbs quickly and does not leave my skin sticky.

Downs:

Moving AGAIN so soon
I’m bummed that I will be missing Eid ul-Fitr (the festival at the end of Ramadan) by a few days, a HUGE cultural part of Indonesia. I’m bummed that I will be missing the best season for mangoes, one of my favorite fruits. I’m tired of having to pack up and move so frequently – this will make the third time in 12 months.
How was your month of April?

Review: Bioderma Sebium H2O Non-Rinse cleanser – the blue Bioderma

Bioderma has been creating a buzz on the beauty world for a while. When I saw it at a pretty good price at a Japanese drugstore, I decided to give it a try.

This is a review for the Bioderma Sebium H2O Solution Purifying Non-Rinse Cleanser for Combination or Oily Skin.

What it does: (from Bioderma’s website)
BIODERMA innovation, Sébium H2O gently cleanses the skin without drying it, through the micro-emulsion of impurities and excess sebum. Enriched with purifying active ingredients, Sébium H2O cleanses the epidermis in depth and regulates secretion of sebum. The patented sebo-correcting complex, Fluidactiv®, normalises sebum quality.

Price: will vary, I see this online for $25-30 for the 500ml bottle. There is also a 100ml bottle.

How to use:
This is basically a cleanser/makeup remover. Soak a cotton pad with the product, and rub your face. You do not need to rinse the product off, but the website suggests to dry your face after using.

Pros:

  • it does a really good job at removing face makeup!
  • Not having to rinse my face after using it is a big plus

Cons:

  • I cannot use it to remove my eye makeup. It does not remove mascara at all. (Bioderma’s website does say to not use it around the eyes)
  • For me, this was a good level of drying/moisturizing qualities, but it may be harsh for some people

Would I repurchase? Maybe, if I can find it at a good price.

Have you tried this product after all the buzz online? Please let me know what you think!
