Throwback Thursday: Favorites from September

Here is a look at my favorites in September 2013 and 2014.  September tends to be a hot month in Japan, so my favorites are still very summer-y!

In September 2013, I liked:

The Beauty Blender (link goes to my review)

I tend to go back to this every few months, even if I find another makeup sponge that I like.  I don’t like the price tag, and I don’t like how it bleeds color, but the texture is hard to beat.

VOV Daily Fresh Apple AHA Peeling Gel (link goes to my review)

This was one of the first AHA products that I have ever tried. I haven’t repurchased it these past few years, because it is hard to find in Japan. I’ll probably try it next time I go to Hong Kong or Korea.

In September 2014, I liked:

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation (link goes to my review)

I don’t know what it is that I love so much about this foundation!  It looks great on my skin, but the lasting power isn’t so fabulous.  I have repurchased this foundation, and I still use it regularly.

Jordana Color Tint Blush in Coral Touch (link goes to my review)

This was a great, affordable cream blush. I was planning on repurchasing it on my next trip to the US, but I couldn’t find it anywhere. It is available online for shipping to the US from Jordana’s website, so I strongly recommend it if you can get it.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (link goes to my review)

This is, by far, my favorite foundation brush. It gives a great buffed finish, it is soft on my skin, and it is affordable.  Although I have been using sponges almost exclusively recently, I still recommend this brush.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Brazilian Tan

This was part of a limited edition collection. This is a warm brown color with a hint of peach.  I realized this is the best nude color for my skin tone!

Monthly Favorites #66: July, 2016

People are predicting that this will be the hottest summer on the record in Japan.  It was EXTREMELY hot in 2013 when I moved back to Japan from Indonesia – I am NOT looking forward to that again!

Here are my monthly favorites:

NARS Orgasm Blush

I picked up this cult favorite a few years ago.  There are a ton of dupes out there for this blush, but I feel that the NARS Orgasm blush is less powdery and stays on longer than the dupes.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette

I’ve started rotating my eyeshadow palettes again, and I still think that this is my favorite out of all the Naked palettes.

Beauty Blender

I still love the Real Techniques sponge, but this month I have been going back to the original Beauty Blender.  One thing I don’t like so much is that the color of the sponge bleeds.

Milani Eyeshadow Primer

After using up my UDPP, I have gone back to the Milani eyeshadow primer.  It is creamier, but still does extremely well in keeping my eyeshadow in place.  It’s also very affordable!

What products have you been loving this month?

Throwback Thursday: Favorites from September

It’s time for Throwback Thursday, where I take a look back my favorites from years past. This time, I’m going back to my favorites from September 2014, 2013, and 2012.

In September 2014, I liked:

Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + Foundation

I can’t believe I’ve never done a review on this foundation, considering it was my go-to for several years! I liked how this foundation applied and how it looked on my skin. I really like that this comes in a squeeze tube. It is hygienic and does not take up space!

Jordana Color Tint Blush in Coral Touch (link goes to my review)

I go back to these every year. They are cheap, have great color payoff, and look fantastic on my skin. I have almost used them up, so I’m looking forward to repurchasing them next time I go to the US!

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush (link goes to my review)

Still a product I love and use daily! If you like to buff in your foundation, this is the brush to buy. It is cheap, soft, and applies my foundation beautifully. Also, it is small enough that I can even buff in concealer under my eyes.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Brazilian Tan

Ahhhh, I searched for this lipstick all throughout New York. Finally, another blogger told me I could find it in Flushing! This is the perfect nude lipstick for me. Not only do I like how it looks on me, I also use it to tone down brighter lipsticks.

In September 2013, I liked:

The Beauty Blender (link goes to my review)

Wow, I really haven’t been using makeup sponges since I fell in love with the Real Techniques foundation brush. I remember there was a distinct difference between the Beauty Blender (right) and the Sonia Kashuk sponge (left). I don’t know if there are any other companies which make makeup sponges which are as bouncy as the Beauty Blender, which is what I liked so much about it.

VOV Daily Fresh Apple AHA Peeling Gel (link goes to my review)

This mask was one of the first products I ever reviewed on this blog, and I still think it is a great product to gently exfoliate my face. I haven’t used it recently, but writing this blog post made me remember that I like to exfoliate my face towards the end of summer.

In September 2012, I liked:

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso

I no longer own this blush and I am not sure why. This is one of those peachy-pink shimmer blushes, along the same lines as the NARS Orgasm blush. While I liked this product, I didn’t like how big the packaging was.

As always, it was extremely interesting to see what I liked in past years. This month, there was a nice mix of products I still love and use every day, products I had forgotten about, and products that I no longer count in my favorites.

Any products you have rediscovered lately?

Up and Down #36: September, 2013

(purchased products)

I have been back in Japan nearly a month, and it has been crazy busy. I feel like I have been getting stuff every weekend, and I spend most of my free time cleaning and organizing. As I mentioned several times, my new apartment is about 1/3 the size of my previous apartment in Japan, and so I have had to throw out a lot of stuff. I have also had to do a lot of smart organizing, and I have been buying a lot of things to help me organize!

On to my Ups and Downs!

the Beauty Blender (link goes to my review)
In hot, humid weather, I don’t want anything heavy on my skin. The Beauty Blender is great for applying a thin layer of foundation.
(Wow, this is an old picture… Long time readers may remember that this blog used to be called Bihada Diaries!)

VOV Daily Fresh Apple AHA Peeling Gel (link goes to my review)
With sun damage and slower cell turnover in the summer, exfoliating is key for me to avoid getting breakouts.

Gel nails
No pictures yet, since I absolutely suck!

Owning a TV
Can you believe it? This is the first time I have ever owned a TV.

Homemade Popsicles
Mine are SUPER simple – just 100% fruit juice poured into a mold.  And the mold is from a 100 yen store. Totally worth it!

It is SOOOO hot in Japan right now…
It is the hottest summer in recorded history! Being outside in this heat is extremely exhausting.
Hope you enjoyed your August!

Favorite Products 2010

Here are my favorite products of 2010!

Can it be 2011 already? Happy New Year everyone!  I hope 2011 is a fantastic year for you.

I had a hard time writing this post since there weren’t that many products that I LOVED well enough to mention here.  I also have a lot of things in my stash that I haven’t been able to try due to my move.  I still decided to do this post since I love reading other people’s favorites.

Best Skin Care items

Soap & Glory The Fab Pore Facial Peel
I continue to love face masks that gently exfoliate my skin.  This was the winner this year.  This is probably the only product that I loved that I bought on a whim!  I usually research products very thoroughly before buying them, but I bought this product after Yinnie enabled me!
Lush Honey I Washed the Kids Soap
I typically don’t like sweet scents, but I really like the scent of this soap! It makes a great lather and does not strip my skin.
Lush Coal Face Cleanser
(picture from
This is another unexpected love.  I love the scent and I love how it works on my skin during the hot summer months.

Best Makeup items

VOV Watershot Foundation
(review here and here)

I love that this foundation does not make my face feel oily, even during the hot summer months.  It looks very natural and there is enough coverage for me.
Barry M Dazzle Dusts in Mushroom
(mentioned several times in my blog, look here)
I knew that pigments were going to have to be on my list considering the number of times they’ve appeared on my Ups and Downs.  I had a really hard time deciding on the color I loved the most this year!  Mushroom is a purple shade which is very wearable if you like shimmer.
(swatch second from left)

Best Tools

Sonia Kashuk Flat Top Brush
(mentioned several times in my blog, look here)
This is absolutely LOVE. I love it for applying and buffing in my liquid foundations.  It is also amazingly affordable.

MAC 217
This was in my favorites of 2009.  I stopped using it some time this year and rediscovered it later.  I think it is fantastic for applying and blending eyeshadow in the outer corner of my eye.

Miscellaneous favorites

Most reviewed brand on Cosmeddicted in 2010:

I did reviews of 8 Lush products in 2010, and I have 4 more which I am currently working on.  I hope I can finish my reviews of the holiday items before they disappear from the stores!

I also enjoyed shopping at Lush stores very much.  Unlike some other brands (*cough* MAC *cough*), the people working at Lush have been very kind and helpful, and seem to really like the products that they sell.

Favorite Bath & Body Works scents

Twilight Woods
Velvet Tuberose
Moonlight Path
No surprises here.  The only change versus last year is that I tried and fell in love with Velvet Tuberose.

Favorite blog post (my personal opinion)
Beauty Blender vs Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge comparison

I had a great time figuring out how to show the difference in density of the two sponges!
Catherine of Strawberry Mochi kindly liked to it on a MUA forum. Thank you for the shout out!

Most viewed post on this blog
Canmake Melty Nude Lip Swatches

Since posting this in August, it has remained my top viewed post.  I did this post on a whim and I’m glad that I did, since it seems to have helped a lot of people!

Best blogging experience:
By far, meeting other bloggers.  I’ve been very blessed this year.  Thank you so much to the following bloggers who have taken time out of their busy days to spend time with me!

– East Coast girls: Mona, Tammy, Diana, Jenn, Jenn
– UK and Europe girls: Yinnie, Jamilla, Eve, Jess, Rowena
– Hawaii girls: Wuzzy, Mai & Kat
– HK girls: Jennifer

That’s it for my favorites!  If I didn’t list a certain category, it’s probably because of one of the following reasons:
(1) I didn’t try enough products from that category to have a favorite.
For example, I used 3-4 blushes this whole year. I did not fall in love with any of them, hence none of them are listed.

(2) My favorite product did not change from last year.
I still use only the Eyelashes Fixer EX for my falsies glue (this product is VERY popular in Japan!) and I still use up a bottle of Gokujyun toner every two weeks.

What were your favorites for 2010?  I hope some amazing products come out in 2011!  Oh wait, maybe my wallet doesn’t want that…

xoxo, K
