How to get the most out of your bath bombs and bubble bars

Bath bombs are great, but there are some times when the bomb is just too big for your bath.  Cutting them in two can be a messy process.  This is what I do to get the most out of my bath bombs!

The technique mentioned here is especially good for Lush Bubble Bars. A Bubble Bar is like a bath bomb to make a bubble bath.  If you just throw your bubble bar into the bath, you won’t get very many bubbles.  This technique will help you get the most out of your bubble bar with the least amount of product!

(Note: I didn’t come up with this method by myself.  I probably found it on some blog or youtube video, but I can’t remember which one!)

What you need
1. A Bubble Bar or bath bomb

This is a Lush Gingerbread House Bubble Bar which I bought in Hawaii last year.

2. A cheese grater

 (stock photo)

3. A bag made out of mesh, or the toe end of a piece of pantyhose
I used a bag like this one:

(stock photo)

1. Grate some of the bubble bar. How much you need will depend on how big your bath tub is and how much product you want.  I used about 1/3.

2. Put the grated product into the bag
3. Put the bag over the bath faucet so that water goes directly into the bag

4. Run bath as normal
5. Relax and enjoy your bath!

By grating the product, it’s easier to dissolve.  By putting it in a bag directly under the faucet, you’re making sure that all the water in the tub gets the great stuff in the product.

Try it out – this really works!

Products I have repurchased – Body/Tools

This is the last section of my recap on the products I have repurchased before!  I’ve reviewed a lot of products on my blog, but there are only a few that I’ve actually repurchased. Please click on the title to see the review.

Biore Sarasara UV daily care gel
This is the sunscreen I use on my face daily. Please note that it is NOT supposed to be used on the face. This product contains alcohol, and your skin may react badly. I use it on my face because it is the only sunscreen I have ever used that does not make my skin oily.

Gatsby Ice Deodorant Body Paper Ice Citrus
This product is fabulous for hot, sticky summers!  Gatsby is a Japanese brand by Mandom that also makes men’s hair products. Although this commercial is for a different product by Gatsby, I can’t mention Gatsby without mentioning this!

Lush Honey I Washed the Kids soap
This soap smells like toffee and honey!  If you missed out on the shower gel version of this product, It’s Raining Men, it is going to be rereleased! I have also reviewed It’s Raining Men.

Face Wash Nets
This is one of my must-have tools!  It’s cheap and makes washing my face so much more effective!!!!

The Diva Cup
This is a feminine hygiene product, but I really can’t live without it!

I hope you enjoyed this series!  There are lots of products which I think are pretty good, but not so many that I’ve actually repurchased.
What are some products that you have repurchased?

Products I would repurchase – Skin Care

This is Part 2 of my series on products I would repurchase or have repurchased.  This time, it’s all about skin care products! I have reviewed all of these products on my blog before, so please click the product name to go to the review.

Skin Care
Keana Nadeshiko Baking Soda Scrub Powder Facial Wash
I mentioned in the review that I would probably not repurchase this again, because I could make this by mixing baking soda with my normal facial cleanser.  However, this is a great product if you are too lazy (like me) to mix it by hand.

Lush Angels on Bare Skin
I actually do not have a review post on this product, even though I have repurchased it multiple times. I have two comparison posts for it (one for the US/UK vs Japan versions, and one to compare it with the Lush Buche de Noel cleanser), as well as a post on how to keep it creamy.
I really need to do a thorough review on it!  This is a great gentle exfoliant, although I would not use it as a cleanser.

Lush Brazen Honey Fresh Face Mask
As I mentioned in the review, this is my favorite Lush Fresh Face Mask and I repurchase it every time I go to the US or to the UK (Fresh Face Masks are simply too expensive in Japan, see the cost comparison in the review post). It is a great exfoliator and I love how it smells.

(stock photo)

Lush Coal Face Cleanser
This is a great cleanser for normal to oily skin. Although I received it as a sample, I’m excited to repurchase it!You can read my review here.

 (stock photo)

Lush Mask of Magnaminty
As I wrote in my review, this is a really minty exfoliator. Steer clear of this if you have sensitive skin as both the strong mint smell and the adzuki beans may irritate your skin.  If you can handle it, it’s a great product!  The Lush Love Lettuce Fresh Face Mask is very similar, so check out that post if you would like to see a comparison between the two.

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes
This is the very best brand of makeup wipes I have used.  They get my makeup off completely but they are not harsh, and the cloth is also very soft.  However, if I use my Clarisonic after using a wipe, I’ll always see a bit of makeup on the Clarisonic.  This doesn’t happen if I use an oil-based cleanser.  I guess wipes don’t remove all of my makeup.  However, if you like wipes, these are the ones I recommend.

Rohto Hadalabo Gokujun hyaluronic acid Eki (toner)
I can’t tell you how many bottles of this I have repurchased. I use up one bottle every 2 weeks, and I rotate through the various Hadalabo toners depending on the season and how my skin feels.

 (stock photo)

Soap & Glory The Fab Pore Facial Peel
Yet another great exfoliator!  However, this uses salicylic acid to exfoliate.  Like the Lush Mask of Magnaminty, this has kaolin and menthol to keep the oils under control.

St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea scrub
This is a great exfoliator which is gentle enough to use every day. It is also great as a daily cleanser, and I love the smell.  I cannot wait to get my hands on another tube!

VOV Daily Fresh Mini Pack Apple AHA Peeling Gel
This is a very affordable exfoliant which is also very easy to use.  If you can get to Korea, I strongly recommend you pick up some packets of this mask!

As you can see, I love my exfoliators. I guess it’s because I can immediately feel the difference they have on my skin!

Coming up – body washes and tools I would repurchase!

Products I have repurchased – Makeup

I was planning on doing a Favorites list for the first half of 2011, just like I did last year.  To change it up a little bit, I went through the products I’ve reviewed since I began blogging, and here is a list of products I have actually repurchased.

I also have a page listing all the products I’ve reviewed before. I am in the process of updating it to show which products I would repurchase.  You can also request a review of products through this page or through twitter.

On to the list! (links go to the reviews for each product)

Barry M Dazzle Dusts part 1 & part 2
I love the Barry M Dazzle Dusts so much!  Pressing them makes them so easy to use.  They are vibrant and very pigmented.

-VOV Castledew Watershot Foundation part 1 & part 2
This foundation feels so light on my skin and still gives me enough coverage!

Maybelline the Colossal Volum Express Mascara
This mascara met my two main criteria: it gave me great volume and didn’t smudge under my eyes! This is the only product in this post that I have actually not repurchased yet. I’m sure Maybelline will come out with another mascara before I get to hit a US drugstore!

Rimmel Fix & Perfect Foundation Primer
This was a great base for my foundation and a great alternative to silicone-based primers. A word of caution though – other bloggers have mentioned it made their foundation oxidize.

Skinfood Peach Sake Silky Finish Powder
This is very similar to the MUFE HD powder, and it controls oil very well.  This is a staple in my makeup routine.

That’s all for the makeup! Stay tuned for the skin care products I would repurchase!

How to get through Project 10 Pan

Project 10 Pan is where I try to use up 10 products before buying anything new.

For me, the intent is to go through and use up some of my stash.  I have two or three boxes FULL of skin care products, and I want to use them up before they go bad.

In case you are interested in Project 10 Pan, but don’t think you have the will to finish it, here are some tips.

  • Lipstick, foundation, eyeshadow, and other color products will take MUCH longer than shower gels or skin care
  • Whether you include a product or not totally depends on you.  Decide what works for you! For example, I always exclude toner (meaning I will buy it when I run out).
  • Some people like to pick out 10 products and continue until they are done.  This personally doesn’t work for me because some products take much longer to use up.
  • Don’t go to places that make you want to buy something, like drugstores, the makeup aisles in supermarkets, the department store, etc.
  • Some people are more interested in trying out everything in their stash to find forgotten favorites.  Although this won’t help you cut down on your stash, this is a good way to figure out what you really like and to avoid buying dupes.  Jennifer of Life and Lens of Beauty has done a great series called “A Blush A Day“.

Do what works for you!
I also have a personal rule that helps me stick to Project 10 Pan:  If there is a product I REALLY want (meaning I’ve thought about it for 2 days and I STILL want it), I’ll go out and buy it… and then Project 10 Pan will become Project 11 Pan.  This still helps me achieve my objective of using up my stash, and I’m not miserable about a product I want.   This is why Project 10 Pan became 20 Pan this time!

On to the products! (If I’ve reviewed the product before, you can click on the product name to go to the review)

I have reviewed this product before. It has a very interesting scent!

I have also reviewed this product before.  This is a great mask that makes my skin smooth!

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream
This is one of my favorite night creams. It contains Retinol and is light enough for me.

MAC Your Ladyship Pigment
I pressed a sample of this pigment. I find pressed pigments to be much easier to use than loose pigments.

Watson’s store brand body butter
Nothing special – I needed a body cream to tide me over between when I moved and when my luggage (and B&BW stash) arrived!

This is my favorite foundation, being very light and not oily.  I’ve reviewed this product twice (see here and here), and it was in my 2010 Favorites.

Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau de Parfum
I enjoyed this fragrance a lot. It is a sheer floral but it is not overly sweet.
It also has base notes of sandalwood, which is one of my favorite scents!

Illume Self Moist Program
Illume is a Japanese brand by Max Factor. This product is somewhere between a toner and a serum, and did a great job of hydrating my skin.

Johnson Body Care Dreamy Skin Relax Daily Lotion
This is the Asian version of the Melt Away Stress line.  I really enjoy this scent!

I have a review of this product.  This would be a fun product to use with your significant other!
St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Scrub
I have also reviewed this product before. This was a great scrub for daily use and I loved this scent. I would definitely repurchase this!!
You can see that I’ve cut open the tube to get everything out. I have an article on how much you can get out of a tube by cutting it.

I have also reviewed this product before. This product did not work well for me since I need oil control.

Bath and Body Works Twilight Woods Body Lotion
This is one of my favorite scents from B&BW, although I always want to try something new!

I have also reviewed this product before. This is an interesting alternative to Angels on Bare Skin.

Bath and Body Works Shower Gel in Dancing Waters
Yes, I am trying to get through my stash of B&BW stuff.  Unfortunately, I was not a fan of this scent.
Bath & Body Works Body Lotion in Dancing Waters
Again, I was not a fan of this scent.

This is a product I very recently reviewed.  I was not a fan of the applicator.

Although I reviewed this product very recently, it has become the most read post on my blog.  This is amazing – the previous Number 1 post was the Canmake Nudy Glow swatches which were Number 1 for over a year!

Maybe I shouldn’t say that I’ve finished this product since there is still plenty left in the pot.  However, I have already used up a whole pressed pan!  I have a separate post with swatches of several Barry M Dazzle Dusts.  They are great quality!

It’s amazing that I don’t have a review on this product yet, although I have mentioned it several times.  Hopefully, I’ll make it to the US again soon so I can pick up the US/UK version!

Phew, that was certainly a long post!  I hope this post was useful to anyone trying to use up their stash!  Now on to another round of Project 10 Pan!
