Review: Eucerin Aquaphor Healing Ointment

This past winter, my skin was extremely dry. I could not even wear body lotion because the fragrance irritated me! I also got massive cracks on my heels.  I picked up the Eucerin Aquaphor Healing Ointment to combat this dryness!Aquaphor healing ointment

What it does: (from the Eucerin website)

Advanced Healing for Dry, Cracked or Irritated Skin. Aquaphor Healing Ointment protects dry, cracked or irritated skin to help enhance the natural healing process and restore smooth, healthy skin. Multi-purpose ointment helps heal raw, irritated skin caused by radiation treatments, facial resurfacing procedures and eczema. Soothes and helps protect extremely dry, chapped or chafed skin and lips caused by winter weather or frequent hand washing. Soothes and protects minor burns
Fragrance-free, preservative-free, non-irritating, and ideal for sensitive skin.

Price: The price of this product will vary depending on where you buy it. Walgreens.com lists this product for $6.30

Availability: This product is available in drugstores and supermarkets. I had to search a few of them before I found it!

Aquaphor healing ointment

Pros:

  • This product feels exactly like petroleum jelly.
  • Because of this, it provides a very strong barrier against dryness and protects the skin
  • It does not contain fragrance or other ingredients which could irritate the skin.

Cons:

  • Again, this is exactly like petroleum jelly.
  • It made my skin feel quite greasy and did not absorb into my skin (which is what I expect of petroleum jelly). This means that I can only use this product at night.

Would I repurchase? No. I felt this is the same as Vaseline, which is a cheaper product.

Now, having said that, if you are interested in the Elizabeth Arden 8 hr Skin Protectant Cream – that too is exactly like petroleum jelly. If you are interested in trying out the legendary Elizabeth Arden cream, I suggest you try this one out first!

Review: Bath and Body Works Wild Madagascar Vanilla Body Lotion

I’m finally on the last of the Bath and Body Works products that I picked up while I was in Hawaii. In the winter, I don’t wear body lotion as the fragrance tends to make my skin itch. As the weather has turned warmer in Japan, I have really been getting back into my stash. This is a review of the Bath and Body Works Wild Madagascar Vanilla Body LotionBath and Body Works Wild Madagascar Vanilla Body Lotion
What it does: (from the Bath and Body Works website)

Vanilla like you’ve never experienced! An intoxicating blend of the world’s most desired vanilla, perfectly enhanced with African pear, wild jasmine and white sandalwood
Top Notes: African Pear, Sparkling Clementine, Ruby Apple
Mid Notes: Wild Jasmine, Wild Gardenia, Heliotrope Petals, Golden Plumeria
Dry Notes: Madagascar Vanilla, White Sandalwood, Creamy Musk

Price: $12.50 for 8 fluid ounces. I bought the travel size, which is $5 for 3 fluid ounces

Availability: Bath and Body Works products are available at free-standing BBW stores

Scent: This product has a fruity vanilla scent.  I definitely pick up on the pear.

Pros:

  • This is different from typical vanilla scents, which tend to be very sugary
  • This body lotion works well for me in the spring and early summer, when I want to moisturize my skin lightly
  • I like how the scent name is descriptive of the fragrance. *cough* Endless Weekend *cough*

Cons:

  • I wish Bath and Body Works would come up with a thicker body lotion!

Would I repurchase? Maybe. This may be my favorite new scent! But Bath and Body Works is always coming out with new scents, so by the time I get to the US again, I may buy something else!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair serum

This is a review of the Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair serum.  It is a little difficult to find products with Retinol in them in Japan, so I buy a few when I am in the US.  This is one such product.

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum

What it does: (from the Neutrogena website)

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum instantly smoothes skin and delivers visible results in just one week! By combining a unique combination of Retinol SA, Glucose Complex, and Hyaluronic Acid, the lightweight, silky serum moisturizes and renews the look of skin throughout the day, and helps to reduce fine fines and wrinkles and diminish the look of age spots. Skin is left feeling smooth and looking younger.

Price: The Neutrogena website lists this product for $21.  I was amazed that many skin care products in US drugstores are quite expensive!

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Serum

Availability: This product is available in selected drugstores and supermarkets. I found this at Target.

Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair serum

Pros:

  • This has a light texture and absorbs easily into my skin
  • Although this product contains retinol, I did not have any irritation although I used it twice a day
  • The pump is hygienic and easy to use
  • I felt that my skin tone improved with use

Cons:

  • The price. I just feel that $21 is expensive for a drugstore product, even if it contains retinol. At this price point, I am torn between spending the money on it, or spending more money on something from the department store.
  • This product is scented heavily.

Would I repurchase? No. While I liked the product itself, I prefer less perfumed products for my skin care.

Do you use any retinol products? Please let me know if you have a favorite!

Review: Pond’s Original Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes

Makeup remover wipes are an item that I got introduced to through beauty blogging.

I used to dislike makeup remover wipes a lot. They never got my makeup off completely, and they always felt harsh against my skin. This tends to be the case with Japanese makeup remover wipes – they are small, not well saturated, and they just don’t remove makeup well.

Many beauty bloggers posted reviews on wipes that they had tried and tested, and I’m always looking forward to my next visit to the US so I can try out some for myself.  On my most recent trip to the US, I picked up the Ponds Original Fresh Wet Cleansing Towelettes.

I really, really like that some of these products come in small packets.  They are so convenient not only for traveling, but also for reviewing in my blog! Now I can buy a product and test it out, without feeling guilty if it doesn’t work out for me!

What it does: (from the Ponds website)
Removes all traces of makeup for fresh, clean skin
Perfectly clean & fresh in an instant. No other leading towelette is better at removing impurities and gently lifting away makeup than these soft, textured cleansing cloths. Infused with Vitamin E and a Triple Anti-Oxidant complex, they revitalize skin while leaving it perfectly clean and makeup free.

Price: As with many US drugstore products, the cost of this will vary depending on where you buy it. Target.com lists the 30-count as about $5 and the 5-count as less than $1.    At less than $1, I was very eager to try it out!

Availability: Pond’s products are available in the US in drugstores (such as Walgreens or CVS), supermarkets (such as Target and Walmart), and online.  Pond’s even has a store locator on its website.

Pros:

  • The surface of the cloth is texturized. It is, in fact, very similar to the cloth I used as a backdrop! The texturized cloth seems to work better for wiping away makeup, but this could just be a perception.
  • This product did a good job at removing my mascara and eyeliner.
  • The price is very cheap, and they are available in small packages which are very convenient for travel.

Cons:

  • Although this product says it is safe for contact lens wearers, I felt that it stung my eyes.
  • I don’t wear waterproof eyeliner or waterproof mascara, so I don’t know how well this works in removing those.

Would I repurchase?  Yes, I would definitely pick up another small size packet!

For daily use, I still prefer using conventional makeup remover that needs to be washed off.  However, wipes are very convenient to have around for those days when I am too tired to wash my face!

What is your favorite makeup remover? Do you have a brand of wipes that you would recommend?  Please let me know!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: L’Oreal Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion 50+

This is a review of the L’Oreal Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion 50+. I picked this up when I went to Hawaii in February.

While I have tried quite a few Asian BB creams (my favorites: Caring Colours Everlast BB Cream and Skinfood Aloe Sun BB cream), I have never tried one from an American brand. I was determined to pick one up in Hawaii!

One watch out about this product: there are three other products from L’Oreal with almost the same packaging. The differences are whether they are SPF 30 or SPF 50+, and whether they are tinted or not. The one called “L’Oreal Paris Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer Face Lotion” (almost the same name, but no “BB”) is not tinted.

L'Oreal Advanced Suncare Silky Sheer BB Face Lotion 50+

What it does: (from L’Oreal’s website)

Advanced Suncare introduces its first-ever BB broad spectrum sunscreen in SPF 50+. It protects skin with a patented UVA/UVB filter complex and evens skintone for a healthy tinted complexion. This multi-acting formula is infused with powerful antioxidants vitamin E and white grape seed to help keep skin healthy and youthful-looking. Just shake to activate this virtually weightless lotion.

Price: Will vary, as with all US drugstore products. L’Oreal’s website lists this product for $11.

Color: This product only comes in one shade. It is slightly darker than my skin tone, but since it is very sheer, I can make it work. (I am an NC25 in MAC shades)

Availability: This product is available in US drugstores and online. If you are going to a drugstore, this product is usually stocked in the skin care area! I looked for it in the color cosmetics area (where foundation is usually kept) but could not find it until I was in the skin care aisle.

Pros:

  • This is  a tinted sunscreen, rather than a foundation or BB cream.
  • Sun protection FTW! This gave very minimal coverage to my skin, which was nice for the weekends.
  • Compared to other sunscreens I have tried, this product is less greasy.

Cons:

  • Because this is a sunscreen, it was very runny and made it hard to apply. Should I put it in the palm of my hand or on the back of my hand? Should I use my fingers to apply it or not? It took me a while to get used to it.
  • L’Oreal, please sort out your confusing packaging!
  • It is a little bit too dark for me, so when I wore it, I immediately got comments that I had tanned.

Would I repurchase? Maybe. I liked the concept of a tinted sunscreen. I hope they come out with more colors!

What American BB creams do you suggest I try next?

Hope you enjoyed this review!
