Review: Bath and Body Works Vanilla Bean Marshmallow Candle

I was on a sweet kick with candles last time I was in the US, so I picked up this Vanilla Bean Marshmallow candle at Bath and Body Works.

What it does: (from the Bath and Body Works website)

A comforting vanilla fragrance that evokes the sweetness of a homemade marshmallow

Price: $4.50 for the mini candle. This scent is also available in medium for $12.50 and 3-wick for $22.50.

Availability: Bath and Body Works products are available at free-standing stores in over 15 countries world-wide (although unfortunately, Japan is not one of them!)

Scent: This product has a strong, sweet vanilla scent. For some reason, it reminds me of roasted marshmallows.

Pros:

  • Although I usually dislike such sweet scents, this one works. This product fills my room with the yummy, sweet scent of roasted marshmallows.
  • This product burns evenly and cleanly without leaving a residue.

Cons:

  • I don’t think I would like this candle in a larger size. It works in small doses, but might be overpowering in a stronger concentration.

Would I repurchase?  Maybe. I really enjoyed this candle and might buy another small one.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Bath and Body Works Cinnamon Sugared Donut Candle

Every time I go to the US, I like to pick up a few candles at Bath and Body Works.  I’ve found over the years that the 3-wick candle does not work well for me. Candles need to burn continuously for long enough to melt the wax evenly in order to burn evenly, so I stick with a smaller candle such as the Bath and Body Works mini or medium candles.

I usually buy quite a few candles at Bath and Body Works, but this time I only bought three. This is a review of one of them, the Cinnamon Sugared Donut Candle.

 (picture from my instagram)

What it does: (from the Bath and Body Works website)
The delicious scent of freshly baked cake doughnut with grated cinnamon and sparkling sugar crystals
Price: $4.50 for the mini candle. This scent is also available in medium for $12.50 and 3-wick for $22.50.

Availability: Bath and Body Works products are available at free-standing stores in over 15 countries world-wide (although unfortunately, Japan is not one of them!)

Scent: This smells exactly like a cinnamon donut! Although I typically steer clear of sweet scents, I like how the spiciness of this candle cuts through the sweetness.

Pros:

  • The scent is sweet without being cloying or overpowering
  • The scent of the candle itself is the same as the scent when the candle is lit
  • Burns evenly without leaving any residue

Cons:

  • I should have picked up another one!

Would I repurchase? Yes! I enjoyed the scent of this candle, and I recommend it if you like cinnamon donuts!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: The Body Shop Aloe and Soft Linen Home Fragrance Oil

It’s easy to imagine that almost every brand that does home fragrance has a floral-scented product and a fruit-scented product. What I didn’t realize is that many brands have a product that smells like clean laundry. This is a review of one such product, The Body Shop Aloe and Soft Linen Home Fragrance Oil.

What it does: (from The Body Shop website)
Fresh cotton and aloe vera provide the initial scent of the fragrance. Freesia and lily of the valley are the dominant notes of the fragrance. Our Home Fragrance Oils can be used with our stylish burners to match home decor.

Price: $6 for 10 ml

Scent: This product smells strongly of freesia.  For some reason, this smells very similar to my laundry detergent.

Availability: This product is available at The Body Shop stores and on The Body Shop website. The Body Shop is available in several countries around the world.

Pros:

  • This is a very relaxing scent.
  • The smell reminds me of the way my sheets smell.  When I use this product as I am going to bed, it helps me go to sleep quickly.

Cons:

  • Like I mentioned before, this product reminds me of my laundry detergent… so maybe I should just use my laundry detergent instead of using this product?
Would I repurchase? No.  I really like the scent, but come on…
In the recent years, laundry detergents and fabric softeners imported from the US have become very popular. These products smell stronger than normal Japanese products, and therefore some Japanese products have started to focus on applying scent to your clothes rather than softening them.  I still like my less-scented Japanese products better!

Review: The Body Shop Ginger Sparkle Home Fragrance Oil

This is a review of The Body Shop Ginger Sparkle Home Fragrance Oil.  I picked this up during my trip to Hawaii. Ginger Sparkle is a limited edition scent for the holidays and may not be available by the time this review goes up, but this scent is usually released every holiday season.

A long time ago, I wrote a review of a different home fragrance oil.  I received a very interesting comment telling me that I would die from using home fragrance oils…

What it does: (from The Body Shop US website)
This home fragrance oil will fill your room with the zingy aroma of ginger. Fresh, zingy aroma With ginger essential oil

Price: $5 for 0.3 fl oz.

Scent:
This product smells like fresh ginger and is not very sweet.  It smells exactly like the Ginger Sparkle body butter. Very often, products from the same fragrance line will smell different, but this one smells the same!

Pros:

  • I like that it smells similar to the body butter from the same line

Cons:

  • It was very hard to get product out of this bottle into my diffuser. I’m not sure if I got a bad bottle or this is the design of The Body Shop bottles.

Would I repurchase?  Maybe. This is a nice scent which fits my home pretty well. I will keep using it during the winter.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Bath and Body Works Sparkling Icicles candle

I recently posted a review of a candle I picked up when I was in Hawaii, the Bath and Body Works Snow Day candle. I have really been enjoying the sweet scent! Another candle that I picked up while I was there is the Bath and Body Works Sparkling Icicles candle. This has a fresher, less sweet scent, and is a nice contrast to the Snow Day candle.

What it does: (description as written an the container)
As sparkling as the ice at the local skating pond, this fragrance features a citrus bouquet, bergamot and a touch of holiday moss.

Price:
Bath and Body Works candles are $20 for the 3-wick candles (14.5 oz, lasts 25-45 hrs), $10 for the small candles (4 oz, lasts 20-30 hrs), $4.50 for the mini candles (1.3 oz, lasts 10-15 hrs). Bath and Body Works typically has some kind of sale going on, so be sure to take advantage of it!

Scent:
The main scent in this product is bergamot. It smells citrusy, but without the sharp sting that you get from lemon. It also smells a little woodsy. The smell of the candle itself is very similar to the scent after you light it.

Availability:
Bath and Body Works products are available at Bath and Body Works stores, and at Bath and Body Works online.

Pros:

  • The scent is very comfortable without being overly sweet or flowery. This was a great scent for my bedroom as well as my living room, and could be accepted by many people.
  • This candle burns clean except for about 5 mm at the bottom of the container after the wick burns out.
  • This candle has a very pretty light blue color, which melts into a dark blue wax.

Cons:

  • Somehow, I didn’t feel attached to this candle at all. I guess because it is similar to other home fragrances that I use, it did not feel special to me.

Would I repurchase? Maybe. I am really surprised by this candle – I thought that since I really like the scent, it would be more memorable. It seems I need to change my scents regularly.

Hope you enjoyed this review!
