How to get through Project 10 Pan

Project 10 Pan is where I try to use up 10 products before buying anything new.

For me, the intent is to go through and use up some of my stash.  I have two or three boxes FULL of skin care products, and I want to use them up before they go bad.

In case you are interested in Project 10 Pan, but don’t think you have the will to finish it, here are some tips.

  • Lipstick, foundation, eyeshadow, and other color products will take MUCH longer than shower gels or skin care
  • Whether you include a product or not totally depends on you.  Decide what works for you! For example, I always exclude toner (meaning I will buy it when I run out).
  • Some people like to pick out 10 products and continue until they are done.  This personally doesn’t work for me because some products take much longer to use up.
  • Don’t go to places that make you want to buy something, like drugstores, the makeup aisles in supermarkets, the department store, etc.
  • Some people are more interested in trying out everything in their stash to find forgotten favorites.  Although this won’t help you cut down on your stash, this is a good way to figure out what you really like and to avoid buying dupes.  Jennifer of Life and Lens of Beauty has done a great series called “A Blush A Day“.

Do what works for you!
I also have a personal rule that helps me stick to Project 10 Pan:  If there is a product I REALLY want (meaning I’ve thought about it for 2 days and I STILL want it), I’ll go out and buy it… and then Project 10 Pan will become Project 11 Pan.  This still helps me achieve my objective of using up my stash, and I’m not miserable about a product I want.   This is why Project 10 Pan became 20 Pan this time!

On to the products! (If I’ve reviewed the product before, you can click on the product name to go to the review)

I have reviewed this product before. It has a very interesting scent!

I have also reviewed this product before.  This is a great mask that makes my skin smooth!

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Cream
This is one of my favorite night creams. It contains Retinol and is light enough for me.

MAC Your Ladyship Pigment
I pressed a sample of this pigment. I find pressed pigments to be much easier to use than loose pigments.

Watson’s store brand body butter
Nothing special – I needed a body cream to tide me over between when I moved and when my luggage (and B&BW stash) arrived!

This is my favorite foundation, being very light and not oily.  I’ve reviewed this product twice (see here and here), and it was in my 2010 Favorites.

Estee Lauder Pleasures Eau de Parfum
I enjoyed this fragrance a lot. It is a sheer floral but it is not overly sweet.
It also has base notes of sandalwood, which is one of my favorite scents!

Illume Self Moist Program
Illume is a Japanese brand by Max Factor. This product is somewhere between a toner and a serum, and did a great job of hydrating my skin.

Johnson Body Care Dreamy Skin Relax Daily Lotion
This is the Asian version of the Melt Away Stress line.  I really enjoy this scent!

I have a review of this product.  This would be a fun product to use with your significant other!
St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea Scrub
I have also reviewed this product before. This was a great scrub for daily use and I loved this scent. I would definitely repurchase this!!
You can see that I’ve cut open the tube to get everything out. I have an article on how much you can get out of a tube by cutting it.

I have also reviewed this product before. This product did not work well for me since I need oil control.

Bath and Body Works Twilight Woods Body Lotion
This is one of my favorite scents from B&BW, although I always want to try something new!

I have also reviewed this product before. This is an interesting alternative to Angels on Bare Skin.

Bath and Body Works Shower Gel in Dancing Waters
Yes, I am trying to get through my stash of B&BW stuff.  Unfortunately, I was not a fan of this scent.
Bath & Body Works Body Lotion in Dancing Waters
Again, I was not a fan of this scent.

This is a product I very recently reviewed.  I was not a fan of the applicator.

Although I reviewed this product very recently, it has become the most read post on my blog.  This is amazing – the previous Number 1 post was the Canmake Nudy Glow swatches which were Number 1 for over a year!

Maybe I shouldn’t say that I’ve finished this product since there is still plenty left in the pot.  However, I have already used up a whole pressed pan!  I have a separate post with swatches of several Barry M Dazzle Dusts.  They are great quality!

It’s amazing that I don’t have a review on this product yet, although I have mentioned it several times.  Hopefully, I’ll make it to the US again soon so I can pick up the US/UK version!

Phew, that was certainly a long post!  I hope this post was useful to anyone trying to use up their stash!  Now on to another round of Project 10 Pan!

Project 10 Pan, Round 3

After I got back from New York, I was going to go on a Project 10 Pan.
I kinda failed at that… since I got a few things online.  However, I didn’t open anything new!!!
I got new stuff, but I haven’t opened it yet!!!

Either way, I have a lot of skin care stuff that I’ve collected, mostly from my travels to Korea, London, Guam, and New York!  I really wanted to use those up!!

Neutrogena Body Oil

Pantene Clinicare Leave In Hair Treatment

Bath & Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Bubble Bath
(the first of 3 Japanese Cherry Blossom items…
Surprisingly, I don’t really like this scent!)

Bath & Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Lotion

Bath & Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom Body Lotion (Travel Size)

Nail Polish Remover

The Face Shop Facial Cleanser

The Face Shop White Tree EX Eye Cream

Bath & Body Works Dancing Waters Body Lotion

It’s all skin care items… so you can see that this wasn’t a really good attempt!
To be fair, I have a HUGE BOX of skin care items that I want to use up!

I’m going to re-start Project 10 Pan once MAC releases it’s In The Groove collection!

I finished my Project 20 Pan, just in time for my trip to NY!

This was originally a Project 10 Pan, but for some reason I turned it into a 20 pan!  I guess I am so used to a no-buy situation that it really isn’t hard for me.  I like to really enjoy what I’ve got versus trying out whatever is new.  There is a lot less temptation here in Japan since there aren’t THAT many new products all the time!  Yes, I realize that there are a lot of things here that all the rest of the blogger world wants… Obviously, what everyone else has looks a lot nicer!!!

Here we go!
MAC Lipgloss in Pink Grapefruit!
This is from one of Mona‘s blog sales!

Facial Wash!
I have no idea where this from!

This is a mineral eyeshadow that I pressed.
You can barely see the pan, but I wanted to take a picture before the eyeshadow broke apart!
EDM Light Golden Intensive!
Skinfood Banana Yogurt Wash Off Mask!
This is from a swap with Blair!
This was REALLY popular last year in the blog world!
A Molton Brown body lotion from Jamilla!
This smelled SO nice!
Again, I took a picture of this bronzer when I hit pan (before I finished it up) because I knew it would break up!

A Vidal Sassoon hair mask!

A leave-in hair treatment!
This was a really interesting emulsion!
Belo Facial Wash!
This is a gift from Iyah!
L’egere White BB Cream!
This is from one of my first swaps with Diana!
I must be one of the few people who didn’t really like this…
Skinfood Agave Cactus Sun BB Cream
I bought this while I was in Seoul.
This was twice as expensive as their other BB creams, such as the Mushroom BB Cream and the Aloe BB Cream, but I didn’t think it was all that much better!
Bath & Body Works White Tea & Ginger Shower Gel!
This is a gift from Wuzzy!  The smell reminds me a lot of lemon ice tea!
It was nice, but I really should stick to the travel size bottles – this full size bottle took a LONG time to finish!

Lush Angels on Bare Skin
Yes, I’m getting another one of these when I get to NY!

Etude House Precious Mineral Essence
This is that primer that looks like the one from Guerlain.
I got this when I was in Seoul.  I liked the light feeling of it!
Bath & Body Works Moonlight Path Body Lotion
Yes, the travel size is just the right size for me.  I LOVE how this smells!

The Face Shop Oil-Free BB Cream
Anastacia kindly sent this to me!
The words “oil-free” are a bit misleading, though.
It contains no mineral oil, but it does have other oils!
I liked the coverage and the color!

Lioele BB cream
I loved the pump!  And this pink packaging is so cute!
Fair & Lovely Skin Clarity moisturizer
Blair kindly sent this to me, and it’s LOVE!!!
I wish I could get another one!
Yes yes, I’m hauling in NY!!!
Please let me know if you’re on a no-buy / Project whatever pan /etc!
We’re all here to support each other!

And the winner is… plus Project 10 Pan update!

Thanks to everyone who entered my giveaway!

The winner is kalai for her detailed suggestions!!

Please email me with your mailing address!

I am re-starting my Project 10 Pan!
I actually did pretty well before going to London.

My pressed powder… the only actual “pan” I used up!

Sea Breeze deodorant
(for some reason, I had 4 bottles of deodorant…)

(one of the many things I have too many of)

Makeup protector spray
(I haven’t seen this in drugstores anymore. Maybe it was discontinued?)

B&BW Hand Sanitizer

EDM Sunlight Kaolin Powder
(again, I have too many powders)

The rules are the same:
Items included in my no-buy/Project 10 pan

  • Eyeshadows/blushes/lipsticks/lipglosses
  • Foundations/bb creams/concealers/finishing powders
  • Shampoo/hair mask/shower gels/body lotions
  • Facial masks
  • Anything that I have more than 1 of

Items not included in my Project 10 Pan/no-buy (I will be buying these since they are necessities)

  • Contact lens related items (because I’m like, um, blind without my contacts)
  • 化粧水 – basically non-alcoholic toner (this is so Japanese of me)
  • Sunscreen (because no one wants skin cancer)
  • Razors (because no one wants to be hairy either!!!)
  • Mascara/Mascara primer /Eyeliner (I religiously throw these away after 2 months, so I know I will use it up anyway)

Wish me luck!
