Review: Lush Mangnificent Soap

This is a review of the Lush Mangnificent Soap. I recently went into Lush with the intent of buying a new shower gel… and I found that I had already tried (and reviewed!) all of the shower gels that were sold at Lush Japan.  Although I don’t usually go towards soaps, I bought this one!

After posting this picture on Instagram, I got a few comments from my friends saying it looks like pork belly!

(picture from my Instagram)

What it does: (from the Lush USA website)

Turn up the energy on groggy mornings with this juicy splash of soapy paradise! Simply strip down and suds up to get whisked away on a sunny adventure of fresh fragrance: zingy Sicilian lemon oil, mandarin oil and neroli oil awaken your senses and brighten up dull-looking skin. Fresh pureed mango and dried mango slices tone and gently exfoliate the skin, leaving it looking vibrant, feeling fresh and smelling gorgeously fruity. Now you’re ready for action!

Price: Lush USA lists this for $6.95 for 3.5 oz

Availability: Lush products are available at freestanding Lush stores globally. Also, Lush ships from their UK online store globally for a quite reasonable shipping cost

Scent: This soap has a very fruity, mango-y scent… which is when I realized that the name of this product is a play on the words mango and magnificient!

  • This product does not have a strong scent. This is rare for Lush soaps – usually my entire bathroom smells like the soap
  • This was a gentle soap, if that is what you prefer

  • I did not get quite as much lather from this soap as I usually do from other Lush soaps

Would I repurchase? Maybe.  While I didn’t dislike this soap, there wasn’t anything memorable about it.

I’m really looking forward to the fall releases from Lush, and hopefully there will be some new products for me to review!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Lush Love soap

The Lush Love soap totally took over my Instagram a little while ago. It seemed that right after the US Supreme Court ruled that state bans on same sex marriage were illegal, the Lush Love soap exploded.  Obviously, I needed to buy it!

(Picture from my Instagram)

Lush has had several products called “Love” or something similar. This product may be better known as the #GayIsOK soap!  I love the #GayIsOK hashtag, I love the golden glitter, and I love that Lush is supporting LGBT rights!

What it does: (from the Lush website)

Lather up and love your skin with our palm free soap base, scented with the iconic Love fragrance. Love the LGBT community and the campaign group All Out, when money from your purchase funds grassroots campaign groups around the world. But before you get your bar wet, show your love online by posting a Love Soap selfie to say that you think #GayIsOk!

Price: $5.95 for 4.2 oz in the US, 650 JPY for 120g in Japan

Scent:  I read another review which called the scent “a rich, full-bodied citrus”, which I completely agree with.  It smells like citrus zest but much fuller and earthier, like bergamot and cinnamon.

Availability: This soap is available at Lush and Lush Online. Surprisingly, I could not find it on the Lush UK website.

  • I LOVE the scent.
  • I love the cause
  • The golden glitter is biodegradable and does not get everywhere
  • the product is vegan!
  • This soap creates a creamy lather, which did not strip my skin.

  • Although I know that all Lush products use biodegradable glitter, I felt uncomfortable using this to wash my face, in case it got in my eyes.

Would I repurchase?  Yes, I wish this product were permanent!  I really liked the scent of this product, and I loved how the glitter made it look!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Lush Yummy Mummy shower gel

If you take a look at my annual favorites, you may see that I review a lot of Lush products. Because I used to buy every single limited edition shower gel, I see some of them repromoted each year. For Mothers’ Day this year, I picked up a new shower gel, the Lush Yummy Mummy Shower Gel.

(picture from my Instagram)

What it does: (from the Lush website)

This super shimmery shower gel will have you turning heads (and noses!). Geranium oil, Brazilian orange oil and tonka absolute are expertly blended together to create one of our most intoxicating, yet delicate, fragrances: Yummy Mummy. Fruity, sweet and dashed with a hint of luster, this shower gel will leave skin unimaginably soft and smelling like scrumptious strawberries. It’s well deserving of its name!

Price: 4.75 GBP / 100ml in the UK, $9.95 / 3.3 fluid oz in the US, and 1030 JPY / 100g in Japan. Because of the current weak Japanese Yen, this product is 15% cheaper in Japan than it is in the US.

Availability: This product is available at freestanding Lush stores as well as Lush online. If you do not have a Lush in your country, Lush products are available for shipping worldwide from the Lush UK website. (Note: this product is no longer available on the Lush UK website. I guess it is because the UK celebrates Mother’s Day in March)

Scent: This product has a strong fruity scent which reminds me of strawberries as well as powder.

  • This product contains shimmer!  The shimmer also dissolves in water, which eliminates the chance that the shimmer will get EVERYWHERE in my shower!!
  • Although this product has a runny consistency, I only needed a little to get a great lather. In fact, I had to get used to how little of the product I needed to wash my entire body.

  • Unfortunately, the scent did not work for me. While I liked the whiff that I smelled as I was buying it, it became overpowering in my shower.

Would I repurchase? No. There isn’t much fun in a Lush product if the scent doesn’t work.

I was disappointed that I didn’t like this product more, especially since this is the only product I picked up from the Mother’s Day collection. However, other than the scent, I thought this was a good shower gel!

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Review: Lush Hot Toddy Shower Gel

For the past few years, Lush has been one of the most reviewed brands on my blog.  Lush’s holiday line is especially popular, with old favorites such as Snow Fairy shower gel and Buche de Noel cleanser.  This year, I picked up a limited edition product, the Hot Toddy shower gel.

What it does: (from the Lush website)

With all the spice of a Christmas market, this deep red shimmering shower gel is sure to blow away the bah humbugs. Laced with softening seaweed, fresh ginger, cinnamon leaf oil and cleansing lemon oil, this will warm up even the chilliest of days and bring a sparkle to your shower.

3.95 GBP / 100 ml in the UK, $9.95 / 3.3 fl oz in the US, and 930 JPY / 100 ml in Japan.

This works out to $0.06 /ml in the UK, $0.10/ml in the US, and $0.07/ml in Japan .Due the currently extremely weak JPY, this product works out to be much cheaper in Japan than in the US.

This product smells strongly of cinnamon, ginger, and several other spices. The scent is very warm and inviting, and reminds me a lot of cozy drinks on cold nights.

Availability: This and other Lush products are available at Lush stores and online. Lush UK also ships almost all of their products internationally, at a fairly reasonable shipping rate.

  • I really like the scent, which is sweet but not overly so.
  • This product cleanses well and rinses clean, and does not dry out my skin.
  • While this product contains glitter, I found that the glitter does not transfer or remain on the skin. This may be because Lush has moved to biodegradable glitter this year.

  • The glitter in this product tends to settle at the bottom, and it is quite hard to shake it up.

Would I repurchase? Yes, I will probably purchase this again next Christmas!

Here are some other Lush holiday items that are available this year, which I have also reviewed in the past.

Snow Fairy shower gel
This is a very popular product every holiday season. I know some people who stock up on Snow Fairy every year!

Buche de Noel cleanser
I really like this cleanser. If you like Angels on Bare Skin, this is a great holiday version.

Snow Cake soap
Another product which has long been a staple of Lush’s holiday line!

Rose Jam shower gel
If you like sweet scents but don’t like vanilla scents, this is a very fruity sweet product.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

Empties Jan – Sep 2014 part 2

This is part 2 of my long overdue empties post.  While I lived in China and in Indonesia, I tended to hoard beauty products because there were a lot of things I couldn’t purchase in those countries. Now that I am back in Japan, I am trying to get through all of them.  It’s been a long journey – for example, although it has been a year since I came back, I still have cotton pads that I hoarded!

Victoria’s Secret Pure Seduction body lotion
(link goes to my review)
This was a surprisingly good body lotion and moisturized my body well.  I want to try a different scent next!

Bath and Body Works Twilight Woods shower gel and body lotion
(link goes to my review)
I’m not sure how many of these I have purchased.  That’s saying a lot, considering I only have a chance to buy BBW products when I go to the US.

Philosophy The Gingerbread Girl shower gel
(link goes to my review)
I purchased this product as part of a set quite a few years ago. The scent of this product reminds me a lot of sweet ice tea with lemon.

Bath and Body Works Aromatherpy Stress Relief Eucalyptus Spearmint Body Cream
This product is a thick body cream which works great in the winter.

St. Ives Naturally Clear Green Tea scrub
(link goes to my review)
I think I purchase this every time I go to the US.  This is a gentle facial cleanser that lathers up well with a facial net, and I love the scent.

Bath and Body Works Aromatherapy Lavender Vanilla shower gel
(link goes to my review)
This is a rare product because although it is vanilla scented, it is not sweet smelling. I enjoyed this scent a lot.

Bath and Body Works Pure Paradise body lotion
(link goes to my review)
This product was very fruity scented. If you enjoy fruit scents, this may be a good product for you.

Bath and Body Works French Lavender and Honey body lotion
I don’t remember much about this product, except that the honey scent was not strong.

Lush Prince Charming shower gel
(link goes to my review)
This product smells like sweet grapefruit, and reminded me a lot of spring.

Urban Decay All-Nighter spray
I am not sure how well this product works. In the summer, I tend to sweat off my makeup, even with this on. Is there such a thing as sweat proof foundation?

What products have you used up recently?
