Review: Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

This is a review of the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. This was a gift to me from a friend.

I’ll fast forward to what I thought of this – I’m surprised that I like it so much!

Ever since the original Beauty Blender came out, many brands have been coming out with so-called dupes. I can’t blame people for buying the dupes – the original is $20, and many of the dupes are less than half the price.

Real Techniques

I’ve always preferred the Beauty Blender brand sponge much more than other brands. The material feels softer on the Beauty Blender, and I never felt that any brand truly recreated the same bouncy feeling. I have a very old comparison post of the Beauty Blender and the Sonia Kashuk sponge.

Surprisingly, the Real Techniques sponge feels just as soft as the Beauty Blender. Also just a surprising to me was how much I like the flat surface of the Real Techniques sponge. It was simply easier to blend foundation with a flat surface!

If you are unfamiliar with the original Beauty Blender, this (and other similar foundation sponges) are meant to be used damp. Run the sponge under running water to get it thoroughly wet, and the sponge will expand. Then squeeze out as much water as possible from the sponge so that it is damp, but does not leave any wet spots on your skin.

What it does: (from the Real Techniques website)

Optimize your beauty routine with this 3-in-1 multi-functional sponge. Rounded sides blend large areas of the face with a repeated dabbing or “stippling” motion. Precision tip covers blemishes and imperfections. Flat edge for the contours around the eyes and nose. Its versatile design evenly blends makeup for a smooth, enhanced finish. Made from polyurethane foam which is latex free.

Price: $6. This is very affordable compared to the $20 price tag of the Beauty Blender

Availability: Real Techniques products are available on their website as well as at supermarkets in the US. The website ships internationally for a very reasonable shipping rate!

Pros:

  • This product feels very similar to the Beauty Blender. If you liked the original Beauty Blender, I would suggest giving this product a try.
  • The flat side is very useful in blending foundation!
  • This has the same rounded shape and pointed tip of the Beauty Blender (minus the flat side), in case these are the areas you want to use.

Cons:

  • As with all sponges, this product absorbs foundation. This means that I go through foundation quickly, and it also means that washing this product is a pain.

Would I repurchase? Yes. If you are a fan of the Beauty Blender, definitely try this out!

Hope you enjoyed my review!

xoxo, K
