Review: Kiko Smart Eye Pencil in 801 Grey Taupe

A few months ago, I started lining my lower lash line. I had tried liner there before, but it always looked harsh on my eyes. I figured out there are 2 things which I need to make it look natural – the first being a brown liner, and the second being a pencil liner.

I have found that black liner just doesn’t look good on me, both on my upper and lower lash line. Using dark brown liner makes it look like I have thicker eyelashes.  However, because many Japanese girls have black hair naturally, most of the eyeliner on the market in Japan is black.
During my trip to Italy this summer, I picked up this brown eyeliner from Kiko, a local Italian brand recommended to me by Giorgia from Beautiful with Brains.  This is the Kiko Smart Eye Pencil in 801 Grey Taupe.
What it does: (from the Kiko UK website)

Its creamy and comfortable texture provides an intense, high-coverage and super blendable line. Thanks to the innovative composition of its lead, Smart Eye Pencil allows you to create thin and well-defined lines with a long-lasting result. Ophthalmologically tested. Paraben free. Available in 16 colours.

Price: The Kiko Italy website shows this as 2.50 Euros, which is about $3.50 USD.  Very affordable!
Availability: Kiko is an Italian brand which is widely available in Europe in freestanding stores.

This is a cool-toned taupe/brown eyeliner, with somewhat of a sheen.

Pros:

  • This is a soft eyeliner and does not irritate my eyes.
  • I really like the color.  Lining the outside half of my lower lashline with this eyeliner makes my eyes really stand out.

Cons:

  • This eyeliner does not last very long, especially on the lower lashline. It tends to disappear halfway through the day. To prevent this, I apply a little bit of eyeshadow on top.

Would I repurchase? Maybe. I wished this would last longer, but Kiko has several eyeliners in their range and I am looking forward to trying more.

Hope you enjoyed this review!

xoxo, K
