Because Kiyomizu temple is such a famous place to visit in Kyoto, it is incredibly crowded. If you plan to go during the spring (during cherry blossom season), the autumn (when the leaves are changing color), or in early to mid January (for New Year’s), be warned that it will be insanely crowded. Go in the very early morning on a weekday. I arrived at around 9 AM on a Saturday – and it was already REALLY crowded!
The view from Kiyomizu temple is fabulous, and the temple itself is well worth the visit. This is probably my favorite location in Kyoto.
Getting to Kiyomizu temple is not very convenient. There is a bus from Kyoto station which is very crowded on the weekends as it also passes through Gion. The temple itself is a 10 minute walk from the bus station, and is on top of a very steep hill. Still, well worth the trip!
Hope you enjoyed this visit to Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto!
