Up and Down #25: July, 2012

Do you know about split pants? Split pants are the mystery of China to me. Parents in China seem to think that “fresh air is healthy for the baby’s butt”.  Also, they are worried that the weather is too hot for the baby.  I understand this part.  It’s 35 deg C (95 deg F), and I’m sweating non-stop.  But can you believe that most parents believe that people who do not use split pants on their babies are “bad parents”?  By “parents”, I’m talking about people in their 20s and 30s, not people in their 50s!

I recently got into a conversation with a few coworkers on “when is a child too old to be wearing split pants”.  Lots of interesting discussion there, but to be frank – seeing a 5 or 6 year old kid stark naked is not a rare phenomenon here. Really, isn’t 5 a little too old to be naked in the streets?  I live in a city, not in the middle of the countryside.

(Insert deep breath here)  On to my Ups and Downs!

Ups:

Simplified makeup.
For the first time in my life, I’ve realized that simple makeup works. Minimum foundation, minimum eyeshadow!

L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows in Iced Latte
A one step eyeshadow that looks great!

My DSLR
I’ve been loving the 50mm f/1.8 lens that I bought.  I read in several places that this was the lens I should learn on, and it really has been great! However, I can’t focus on swatches on my arm with it. I’m still working this out!
(stock photo. The camera is the correct one, but the lens is not)

Downs:
Still stuff going on at work. Oh well!

How was your June?

5 Thoughts on “Up and Down #25: July, 2012

  1. I have seen those pants in China – ewwwwww! Agree about the makeup!

  2. We’ve had interesting conversations on the split pants before. I agree with you and think that 5 is a bit too old already for being naked in the streets.

Love your camera! Still really debating on whether or not to get a DSLR or just upgrade to a really good digital point & shoot. There are supposedly some good ones out there with DSLR quality.

Hang in there! Work will always present some stress and problems, where ever you are. But you know we are here for you to vent to.

  3. iced latte looks very pretty!
my june was pretty tough for different reasons, but i am hoping to have a better month. ;)

(and i agree 5 year is too old for that ;-/)

  4.  I’m loving the Iced Latte! I’m glad I bought a color which I can use almost every day!!

  5.  What did you finally decide for your camera? I love my DSLR, but there are downsides, like that it takes a lot longer to do the postproduction!
